Chapter 3 | I'd Thought You'd Be Smart Enough

1164 Words
My phone blares with the alarm at 7 in the morning - as usual- making me instantly jolt out of my slumber. I blow a piece of my blonde out of my face, shutting off my alarm and got myself ready for work. Today's the first day that I work for Mr. Jones as my new boss. I went into my bathroom and turn on the shower making it warm so I could step in, once, inside the shower, the warm water hits my skin making me fully awake and I began to wash my body. After I was finished I shut the water off, stepped out, and wrapped a towel around my me, then add another around my wet hair. I blow dried my hair, then straightened it with the iron wand, making my hair stop down the middle of my back. New boss, new style I walked into my closet, and picked out my favorite red mid-knee business skirt, with my red matching blouse, to top it off I finished the outfit with my black shiny heels. I quickly applied red bold lipstick, black eyeliner and eye-shadow to complete my look. I grabbed my special necklace and placed it on my neck. I checked the timed, and it says I have twenty-five mins before 8 o'clock to get there on time so I quickly grabbed my things, ran down my stairs and was out the door as quick as lighting. *** I entered the building, as someone spoke, "Morning Miss Swan." the front desk lady greeted me. "Morning." I greeted back as I continue to walk to the elevator. I never knew the front desk lady, well on this job I really didn't know anyone but David, but now that he's gone who will I be with? I sigh as I click the top floor of the building, waiting. The elevator opens as I knock on the wooden door that now says; 'Mr. Jones Office' "Come in." His voice was deep. I do as I told an open the door. He smiles, "Welcome Miss Swan, you like the office?" he says, gesturing his hands around the room. I nod looking around at the newly done office, "Yes Sir." I sat down on the new red couch on the side and slipped my yellow notepad out, "What has to be done today, Mr. Jones?" I asked trying to sound as professional as I could. He began to lean back in his new chair, rubbing his chin, "How about you get me a coffee from the kitchen, and when you're back I'll tell you what needs to be done." I quickly nod as I got up when he yells, "Oh and make it black coffee." he winks. I turn around and head out the door, making sure I roll my eyes. He's such a player. Quickly I sat my purse in my office, then head to the kitchen to make him his coffee. After the coffee brewed I close the lid on top and slipped the straw in for him to sip. I carefully held the extreme hot coffee and walk in his office once again. I knocked. "Come in." his voice boomed. I entered shutting the door after. I sat his coffee right on his desk and sat down on the couch crossing my legs and pulling out the yellow pad from where I left it. "So what needs to be done, sir?" He examines me, just looking, his eyes almost looks soft. Why is he looking at me like that? He clears his throat and began to speak, "It's not really much for you to do today since it's my first day working in this building, but can you remind me to make an appointment at 3:15 and call my friend at 4 for dinner." I simply nod. He's only been in New York for two days, what friend is this? I wrote down the words that he spoke, then sat my pencil down, "Anything else that needs to be done, Mr. Jones?" I ask, giving him a forced smile. Mr. Jones takes a sip of his coffee, forgetting to blow on it to cool it down, letting it burn his tongue, "Bloody hell!" he shouts, slamming the cup down causing it to spill a little, "Why didn't you tell me that it was extremely hot!" I hid my smile that was creeping up. Sounds like karma. "Sorry sir, I thought you'd be smart enough to at least cool it down first, steam was overflowing the cup," I said, with a hint of attitude. He gives me a glare, "Get out of my office Swan!" pointing his index finger at his door. You don't have to tell me twice. I nod as I got up out of my chair, gathered my things and left, but before I left I shouted, "See you in a few Mr. Jones." I shut the door hearing a faint groan as I left. There's just something about him, he different than other men, maybe he is bipolar, or even gay! I just have to keep my distance as far away, I just come to do my job nothing else. Trusting people isn't so easy, but it looks like trying to trust my new boss would be harder.  *** Hours later it hit 3:50 as I was still hanging in my office, Mr. Jones hasn't even called me in for anything else, at 3:15 I called him for his meeting, as I waited in my office, I occupied myself by talking on the phone, eating and or playing games on my phone. He didn't even call me in for the meeting like I did with David, I'm an assistant, I'm supposed to be by his side as my job. He must have been really angry at me over the coffee comeback, if only he had common sense. I sat up on walked into the meeting room, I opened the door as all eyes were on me. Mr. Jones stopped in the middle of his presentation, "Yes Miss Swan?" "Sorry to interrupt, but it's four o'clock sir, do you want me to call for you instead since your meeting isn't quite done?" He sighs, taking a sheet a paper and began to write numbers down, "Here's her number, tell her to meet me at the Jolly Roger at 7:30, and wear something nice." he stares at me while I stare back at his amazing eyes that I get lost in. Her? So it's a date. I nod as I brush my hands against his making my hand tingle like electricity, I remove it as I grab the paper and scurry out of the meeting room. I looked at my hand, awkwardly, examining if something was wrong. My heart is racing, and my hand felt weird, I think I need to see a doctor! I shake my hand and continued to walk back to my office to make the call.
