Chapter 006

1216 Words
Sophia had just finished her shower and slipped into a simple white nightgown before heading downstairs. She was planning to watch some TV with her cousin, Nora. But the moment she reached the staircase, she froze. She rubbed her eyes in disbelief. There, sitting on her living room sofa, was William—smoking a cigarette as if he owned the place! How did he get in? Panic and anger surged in her chest. Sophia stomped down the stairs in her slippers, marching straight toward him. William was sitting with his legs crossed, looking completely at ease. He turned to Daisy, the housekeeper who was in her forties. "Daisy, could you please brew me a cup of Dragon Well tea?" Daisy smiled and nodded. "Of course, Mr. William." As Daisy turned to prepare the tea, she saw Sophia storming over and immediately greeted her politely. "Miss Sophia." seeing Sophia approach, William instinctively called out to Daisy again. "Daisy, make a cappuccino for Sophia, warm, please." "Understood, Mr. William," Daisy replied with a nod before bustling off to the kitchen. Sophia was already annoyed, but now she was furious. William was acting like the master of the house, giving orders to Daisy! And hearing Daisy call him "Mr. William" so naturally made Sophia's blood boil. It was as if he had already established himself as the man of the house! "You! How did you get in here?!" Sophia demanded, standing right in front of him, her finger pointed accusingly at his face. William looked up at Sophia in surprise, his eyes lighting up. During the day, she had been dressed in a standard, professional business suit. But now, she was wearing a beautiful, intimate nightgown. He could smell the faint scent of her shampoo and body wash—a delicate fragrance that was intoxicating. Sophia was a beauty in any setting, but in this relaxed state, her allure was lethal. William felt like he had taken critical damage—99 hit points, straight to the heart. "Wifey," William murmured, staring at her in a daze. "Why are you so beautiful? It's unreal... especially for a twenty-eight-year-old. You’ve developed so well. Heavens, my wife really is in a league of her own!" He grinned, revealing a set of white teeth, looking immensely proud. It was the look of a man who truly believed he had won the jackpot. "What nonsense are you spouting!" Sophia gritted her teeth, her face flushing with anger. "Am I wrong?" William asked earnestly. Sophia took a deep breath, trying to calm herself. She sat down opposite William, crossed her arms and legs, and radiated an aura of icy fury. "I asked you, how did you get in?" "I walked in, of course." William shrugged as if the answer was obvious. "I don't have wings, so I couldn't fly in." "Good! Very good!" Sophia pointed at the door. "I don't care how you got in. Get out now! You are not welcome here!" William looked out the window at the pitch-black night and frowned. He turned back to Sophia, widening his eyes to look pitiful. "Wifey, is this really how you want to treat me?" "I traveled all the way to this city yesterday just to see you. I don't have a place to stay yet." "I slept on the streets last night. Do you really have the heart to make your husband sleep on the streets again?" His voice was thick with emotion. He almost fooled himself with his own tragic story. Sophia frowned deeply. "That's none of my business! I've told you many times, I am not your wifey! Just get out!" She was going crazy. The thought of this scoundrel living in her villa made her feel unsafe. But... Is he telling the truth? Did he really sleep on the street? Sophia’s heart softened for a split second. She glanced at his clothes again—he really did look like a hobo who had just walked out of a cornfield. She couldn't understand why her grandfather and dad had forced this engagement on her, threatening suicide to make her agree. What were they thinking? If I kick him out and he has no money, and he actually sleeps on the street... wouldn't that make me too cruel? She hesitated. "Cousin." At that moment, Nora walked out of the kitchen carrying a plate of sliced watermelon. She hadn't showered yet but had changed into a fresh, light green dress that made her look pure and lovely. "William has nowhere to stay. Just let him stay here!" "We have so many empty rooms. We can't let William sleep outside in the wind and dew, can we?" "He is your fiancé, after all. And Cousin, you have the kindest heart." Nora pleaded on William's behalf, painting him as a pitiful stray. She really wanted him to stay. She knew Sophia had a sharp tongue but a soft heart. In Nora’s eyes, Sophia was the best sister in the world. Sophia felt awkward seeing her own cousin taking an outsider’s side. But considering William had saved Nora from those thugs the previous night... if she kicked him out now, she wouldn't be able to explain it to her grandfather. Sigh. Finally, Sophia exhaled, feeling defeated by this man who seemed immune to her anger. She glared at William coldly. "Fine! You can stay for now! But you are only allowed to stay on the first floor! That is my bottom line!" William grinned, his plan a success. "Although the first floor usually has a lot of rats and cockroaches, since it's a thoughtful arrangement from my wifey, I accept." "Who has rats and cockroaches?!" Sophia snapped. "William, let me tell you, if you want to live here peacefully, you better behave yourself!" She stood up and stormed upstairs, too angry to even eat the watermelon Nora offered. Sophia needed to figure out a way to break this engagement and kick this rascal out. Once Sophia was out of sight, Nora flashed a peace sign at William. "Great news, William! We're roommates now!" she giggled. "See? I told you Cousin is kind-hearted. You have to cherish her." William smiled and nodded. He realized that Sophia wasn't just breathtakingly beautiful; she had principles. She had a strong personality. Otherwise, how could she run the entire Ning Group? he thought. This wife of mine is interesting. After eating some fruit on the sofa, William was surprised to see Sophia come back down. She personally brought bedding to the guest room on the first floor, along with a set of new toiletries. She instructed William to tidy up the room himself and then went back upstairs with a cold face. Her words were icy, but her actions showed care. William smiled. Nora suggested William take a shower first, seeing as he was still sweaty from the day's events. William didn't argue. He grabbed a towel and his toothbrush and headed for the stairs. There was a bathroom on the first floor, but William preferred the one on the second floor. As he walked up the stairs, he glanced at Sophia's closed bedroom door. The corners of his mouth curled up in a confident smirk. Just wait, my dear wifey, he thought. I'll be moving to the second floor soon enough!
