Joe settled his shoulders back into the driver’s seat. He shifted his form, turning his body so that he could gaze down at Foxy. She wasn’t asleep, as he’d suspected. She sat still in the passenger seat, eyes out the front window, staring at nothing. She was quiet like she’d been for the last twenty minutes on the ride home. They were parked in the drive of the Flying Cross Ranch now. Their hands were still entwined. He knew they couldn’t sit here all day, even though he wanted to. The last thing he wanted to do was let go of Foxy’s hand. It had taken too long to gain a hold of her hand, of her heart.
