The moon was high over the barn. The ranch was quiet in the cool night. The sky was still cloudless, but Will had just weathered a storm for the ages. For the second time this week, Will slowed the car to a stop on the ranch. The gravel under the tires was as quiet as the interior of the car. The lights were out in the main house, as well as the guest house and the bunkhouse. Even the bugs halted in their creeping, uncertain if it was safe to make any move.
