Charlie didn"t budge when Savy pushed him away. Oh, his girl was strong. He"d made sure of that. Racing with her through the woods when they were kids. Challenging her to push up and pull up contests when they were teens. And teaching her self-defense moves when they were new adults. There was no way he was leaving her unprotected in this world. Not with what they"d seen growing up in the system. Especially not with her addict of a mother dragging the girls off to seedy concert halls and dives. If he hadn"t been sure that Savy could hold her own, Charlie doubted he would"ve been able to be away from her for such long stretches. He also knew this weak display of her power had to do more with emotion than an actual desire to send him away. So he held on. He had too many years of practice
