Charlie hated the pain in Savy"s eyes. What he was about to do was going to hurt her. It was unavoidable, but it wouldn"t be forever.
"We have to let her go," he said.
Savy didn"t say the word. She didn"t have to. Her whole body radiated the word no. But she didn"t pull away from Charlie. She leaned into him as though it was only his strength that held her up.
He would be strong for both of them. He would be strong for all of them. Because the thought of Daria leaving them hurt him, too.
Charlie wiped the tear from Savy"s eye before turning and going down on one knee. He came level to Daria. The little superhero wasn"t wearing her mask. She stood as her true self, and she had a tear in her eye as well.
Charlie collected it in his thumb along with Savy"s. "You remember the plan?"
