Chapter 10

"Surprise!!!" I yelled opening the door with a flourish. "No surprise there, Christy. We see you nearly every week." Such dampening words. "Don't be a downer Nolan." My good cousin Andy still missed me at least. "I'm surprised Christy." Bending down a little, I patted her brown hair. "Thank you, Andy." She walked to my side and we walked together. "I didn't think you'd come this early. What happened?" "I wanted to surprise you." "Mom!" Nolan called out. I turned to her too "Aunt Leila." "Christy you're early today. But that's good. Very good. Remember I told you we have a werewolf community in Oslow here. Well, I forgot to mention that we have one of the biggest libraries on werewolves." "I'll introduce you to more werewolves in Oslow too. We have books on other supernatural beings too, vampires, witches, fae, elves, and so many other beings in their different realms. We are meeting today. Would you like to come?" "Yes thank you, Aunt." "Mom can we come too?" Alex asked as she came out "No, you have to be at least sixteen Alex, you know this." "Oh right. Tell me how it goes Christy." "I will." I sank into the familiar comfort of the environment. I liked being here, away from the smell of humans, their polluted environments, and frenzied emotions. I had come to appreciate this cozy dwelling that smelt of werewolves only. And not just any werewolves, my family. The afternoon slipped by in the blink of an eye; soon, it was time for their meeting. Aunt Leila smiled at her husband, "Bye Dear. We are leaving now." "Bye Mom," they chorused as my uncle waved. We walked down the road to the route of their meeting point. She spoke up gently "We are going to Graham's house. His dad is a General and his mom is an elder so he's loaded and has connections." "The library is in his house. The meeting today is going to be there too, we frequently hold meetings there. He's also a councillor so he's updated about even human affairs. He's our knowledge hub." "Here we are." The house was beautiful, a large storey building with a well-kept lawn, flowers, and ornamental plants surrounding the entryway. His choice of flowers was peculiar, they were special to werewolves and beautiful to humans. Security cameras and a few werewolves served as the guides and protection of the building. It was out in the open yet secret. "Madam Leila", one called. He smelt like a werewolf but his scent was strange. A lone wolf? Lone wolves had no affiliation with packs at all. They had never been in one. He must have been an orphan who didn't get reinstated to any pack born from rogue wolves. Rogues were exiles from packs–like me. "Right this way. Welcome. This is?" My aunt turned to me "My niece Christy. She's here for the first time." "Welcome Miss Christy." "Thank you." The inside was beautiful, chandeliers, paintings, the whole residence bespoke money. Clearly, Mr. Graham was rich. We sat in his garden behind his yard. This one was even more marvellous than his front yard. Rows and rows of flowers grew among the freshly cut grass. There were others there already but just three of them "Leila, you're early." The man remarked. "Is this mockery? I'm never late past fifteen minutes." "Yet you're here twenty four minutes early. So what's going on? Go on." "What's that supposed to mean. I'm a time–conscious person." "Okay then." "Who's this?" The woman asked "Ah yes, everyone this is my niece Christy." "Good evening everyone." "Good evening," they chorused. "Leila" the woman gushed, "your niece is so beautiful." As we waited more people came. "Leila, a new member?" She straightened up, "This is my niece, Christiana Haven." He nodded. "Thank you all for coming. I can see a new member, welcome Christiana." "It's a full moon soon. In as much as we have adjusted and adapted to fit in and live well in Oslow, our nature remains the same. We are werewolves." "I have once again secured the private park for us to use on that day so we can be ourselves without fear." Applause sounded. "Our able councillor!" someone yelled "Thank you. But despite this, we must be vigilant during the full moon day and the days before it." Then Rowan walked in. I smelt him before I saw him. So he's here too. What am I doing, Of course he's here, he's a werewolf. I focused back on the meeting. "...this is why we don't allow members younger than sixteen. That being said I hope to see you all on the full moon night." He stepped back and the meeting ended as we all walked together heading to the dining hall. A long table had been set up and the meal was served. After eating people left one after the other. I watched as Rowan and Aunt exchanged a few words before he waved to me and left. "Alright Christy, now it's reading time. Let's go." Mr. Graham sat quietly with the door open, but still, my aunt knocked on the wooden door. "Come in." He called He looked up at me, "Christiana, welcome to Oslow. Are you studying at the University?" "Yes sir." "Very good." He brought out a wad of cash. "Have this, study hard." "Thank you, sir." "Sir Graham, please we'd like to make use of your library." "Okay. Respect each book there, those books are knowledge in its raw and undiluted form." "We will." I smiled relieved he had a strong aura, "Thank you, sir." My aunt led me up the stairs to his library. His library was much bigger than I thought it would be. "I'll wait for you on this sofa. You can check for whatever you want." "Thank you, Aunt." I appreciated my aunt more than she'd ever know. "Go on Christy." I glanced through it all, the organised sections on wolves, packs, and other species. I picked up one at random, reading on the story of a werewolf–witch pair where the werewolf found his mate but she didn't understand the bond fully. Until the Moon Calling. A witch performed the first Moon Calling to open their minds to the bond and each other. It was recorded that they lived for decades happy together. I guess the Moon Calling worked. Was a witch's Moon Calling more potent? Did I need to seek advice from a witch too? Where would I find one?
