Chapter One

"Kyle. Kyle" I called as I pushed his shoulder gently in attempt to wake him up "Kyle, wake up" I groaned as he pulled up the over his head. "Get up, we're going to be late" I said pushing his shoulder with more force "I don't want to be late on the first year of senior year" He groaned again "What the big deal? It's just senior year. We've been late to every first day of school since we freshman year" "That's my f*****g point" I sighed "It's our last first day of high school" "Not really, we're going to go through all of this again next semester on the first day of our last semester" he mumbled "Now make yourself useful and close the curtains, then leave me in peace. You can wake me up again in an hour" I slapped the back of his head "Kyle ..." I start to say as I reach for his shoulder again. "One more hour, please. I just need one more hour of sleep" he mumbled as he drifted off to sleep. I rolled my eyes at my failure attempt to wake him up, then walk myself out of his room and down to the kitchen for breakfast still dressed in my pyjamas that consisted of an oversized t-shirt and a pair of short that were slightly longer than my shirt. At this point of living with Kyle and his mother for the last 5 years, I lost track of which are Kyle's shirts, and which are mine. "Good morning, Mrs. Anderson" I smiled as I walked into the kitchen. She looked up at me from the papers that were scattered across her "Good morning, Kim" she smiled. "Isn't it a bit too early for you to be working?" I asked her as I walked toward the fridge. She took off her glasses and leaned back "I'm submitting this draft today so I have to make sure it's perfect before I submit it to the paper's editor" she said, they looked to the stairs direction "Where's the other one?" "You know how your son is" I chuckled "One more hour" "You are well aware that he takes at least an hour to get ready, right? You both will be late to school" she pointed out. I nodded "I tried" I told her. She sighed as she got up "I'll prepare breakfast, how about you go give it another try the get dressed" "Yes, ma'am" I told her, then walk to the stairs. "Kim" she called once I got on the stairs, causing me to stop "How about you give him a hand on start his shower? The bucket is in the upstairs bathroom" "If you say so" I called back with a chuckle. The bucket was exactly where I left it yesterday morning when I heard the shower leaking, it was half filled with cold water. I carried the bucket to Kyle's room, deciding that I should probably stand where he was giving me his back since it would be easier for the escape part. "Kyle" I called "Get up" "No" He mumbled. "I said get up" I warned him "This is my last warning" "Oh please, what are you going to do about it? hit me with those noodle arms" Offended at his comment, I dumped the water on him and the bucket at the process too. He jumped out of bed with a gasp then followed by a yell as he locked down at his drenched bed "What the f**k, Kim?" It wasn't until his hazel brown eyes locked with my Brown ones that I realised that I've made a big mistake by not running out of the door as soon as I dropped the bucket on him. I kicked the blanket off his feet, revelling his bare toned torso and legs. He then grabbed on the edge of the mattress with a smirk as he leaned forward "You're dead" I took a step backward, then took off running downstairs since I didn't have a lock for my room. My best chance was to run into the kitchen and hide behind his mum and hope that she would protect me from the monster her idea created. As soon as I ran into the kitchen, a small smile appeared on her face, an a chuckle fell off her lips when I hide behind her back as Kyle walked into the kitchen dripping water. "Get your ass over here and stop hiding behind my mum like a f*****g cowered" he said. "It was your mum's idea" I point out. He smirked "You choose to do her dirty bidding, no one forced you to"  he pointed right back "Plus, I can't kill my own mother, but I can kill you" Before I could ask for him mum's help, he ran sprinted across the island separating us causing me to run the other direction. I ran into the living room, creating another barrier between us by jumping over the coach and standing in front on his while he stood across me. "I'm sorry?" I asked. He shook his head than jumped over the couch. I wasn't quick enough this time. Before I was able to make it around the couch, he grabbed me from my Pyjama and onto the couch. He held my eyes as he pinned both arms above my head and sat on my stomach. At that moment I was more than grateful that he had shorts on and not the usual boxers for bed. "Don't" I pleaded, but as soon as I did, he started tickling me. Tickling has always been one of my weakness, something that I couldn't stand. I would usually leave me breathless and the state that I am most vulnerable in. Of course, he was one of the only people that new that I was extremely ticklish. "Stop, stop it, Kyle please stop it" I said as I tried to catch a breath. When all hopes died of me finding a way out of it, I used the only card i knew would get me out of this "Ow, ow" I cried "My leg, you're hurting my leg" He immediately stopped, then rushed to get off me. He pulled me up so I was sitting on the edge of the couch "I'm so sorry. I didn't think that this would hurt your leg" he apologised "I mean, it shouldn't be hurting you at all. The doctor said it was fully healed" A couple of months back, Kyle thought it would be a good idea to go to a sky resort. He then convinced me that I should get on one of those Scenic Lift Ride, knowing I was scared of heights. Long story short is that I fell in the landing and broke my leg. It was something that still hunted Kyle and made him feel guilty. When he least expected it, I pushed him back and ran up the stairs "Asshole" I called. "You little brat" he called, then sighed in surrender. He didn't chase me to my room, he knew that he wasn't allowed to step into my room because that was the only space that felt like it belonged to despite not having a key for it. It wasn't that I didn't feel like home at the Anderson's, I always have, it's just that everything was theirs and the room was the only place I felt like it belonged to me and it was my only space in the house. I consider myself blessed to be living with them. Especially because Kyle and I were best friend long before I moved into their house. Kyle dad grew up with mine, then they attended the same university where they studied marketing, which is how my dad met my mum. When Mr. Anderson introduced his wife to my mum, they insistently became best friend. When both couples got married, they moved to my hometown and bought house right next to each to become neighbours. Everything fell into place after, both my parents and his dad started their own consultancy and then we were born. My friendship with him was planned before I was even born, it wasn't something that I minded though. It was one more thing that I was grateful for. When the consultancy took off and became internationally known, companies from all around the world started to contact them for help with their business so they had to travel often. Mrs. Anderson decided that she would stay behind for her own career and to build a stable home for Kyle, she didn't want him to transferring schools each year or be home schooled. She then convinced my parents that it would be the right thing to do, because change is really difficult for me and it would affect my academic future and relationships. Hence, that's how I ended up living with them. Brushing aside the feeling of missing my parents, I moved to my closet and got dressed. Not that anyone would notice, or it would matter, but I decided that I was to look my best on the first day back to school. So, I got dressed into a pair of light washed mum-jeans, stripped white and black oversized sweater and a pair of white sneakers. I then pulled my chestnut curly hair out of its messy bun, then added my silver honeycomb shaped hoop earring. "Breakfast is ready" Mrs. Anderson called. I stuffed my phone into my backpack before jogging down to the kitchen and taking a seat on the table across Kyle. Surprisingly, he was already dressed in a pair of dark jeans, white hoodie and white sneakers. His didn't comb his hair, it was obvious because he usually likes his curly hair to be slightly dropping to the side instead of pushing it all back; he was wearing a hat on the first day for sure.  "You should dress better, you know" I told him as I reached to the plate of scrambled eggs, then dropped my voice to a whisper "For Mr. Captain of the basketball team and Playboy, you sure don't know how to dress like one" "Do I look like I care?" he asked, then leaned forward and whispered "Girl don't really care about how I look with my clothes on, if you know what I mean" I give him a smirk "And they don't really care if you have a personality too" I said "If you didn't know, that's something bad" "And I don't care if they had one either. Anything with two legs that can walk remember" he whispered, throwing a line I used at line a threw at him when we fought earlier that summer. I roll my eyes as I lean back "I didn't mean that, and I said I was sorry" I told him "So stop using it against me" We never usually fought, in fact, before the fight we had at the begging of summer, we never ever did. That one time we fought; it was about him sleeping with every girl he met. It wasn't as if he was the one who suggest that and tries to get with them, it was them that threw themselves at him and he just accepted it. I couldn't blame them really, after all Kyle is known to be the hottest guy to school and the most likeable as well. I mean, there wasn't anything about Kyle that people can hate on, except for his record of girls he slept with, but even in that, the made himself very clear that he doesn't date. It didn't bother me before at all, his sleeping around habit. It wasn't until he started cancelling our planners and going out with other girls that sent me over the edge. I said things that I didn't mean and called him almost every word that's a synonym for man-w***e. He, well he just stood there and allowed me to let it all out of my system then gave me the space that I needed for two days before we came up with rules and made fixed plans for us every week. I feel stupid thinking about it now because he is allowed to have his own life, one that doesn't include dragging me with him everywhere. "Do we have time to walk to school?" he asked. I tilted my head "You want to walk to school?" I asked. I nodded "I don't mind. It's nice outside" I smiled "Yes, yes we do" Just as I expected, He grabbed his white baseball hat off the stairs before we left. We walked to school side by side, talking about random things like this season of basketball, our senior year, and about some other roamers that's been going around about the couples breakup and hook-ups that happened during the summer before we fell in comfortable silence.  "Tell me" Kyle spoke up "What's your secret? How do you do it?" I looked at him confused "Do what?" "Not fall for me" he said. I snorted as I rolled my eyes "What type of question is that, assface. Stop messing around" He chuckled "No, I'm serious. You're like the only girl in school that not either in love with me or chasing after me to get in bed with her. How do you not fall for all of this?" he said, pointing at his body for last question. "Easy" I told him "One, I have a f*****g standard. Two, I've seen better. and three, I know you so that's all it takes for me to not be attracted to you at all. You're my best friend from childhood, there's absolutely nothing that can change the way I feel about you" "Guys on TV don't count" he smirked "The only reason you aren't chasing me is because you know you can't handle all of this" I turned to him, raising an eyebrow as I titled my head to the ride "I'm sorry almost average size d**k, you don't think I can't handle you tinny whinny friend?" Shook and confusion cover his face as he turned to me. "You might want to clear your browser history when you google something as 'Is 4.2 inch an average d**k size'. Honestly, Kyle, I'm surprised" I said before falling into a small fit of laughter. "Sure, laugh it up B cup. You're far from average too" he said. I immediately pushed him with a horrified expression on my face "You little piece of s**t, you went through my stuff?" He chuckled "You left the tag of your newest purchase on the bathroom floor" he pointed out "I mean, I was surprised too, I usually find a Target or Macy's tag; I never expected that I would find a Victoria Secret tag on my bathroom floor" "Shut up" I said, blushing reader than a tomato. "I mean I thought you'd at least talk to me about it before you start sleeping with someone, I mean I'm considered to be an expert in those kind of things after all. I could teach you a trick of two" he said "I mean that's why you bought those, right?" "No, I'm not sleeping with anyone" I said as I smacked his chest "Even if I finally decide that I will, I wouldn't talk to you about it" He looked at me confused "Finally? Have you not slept with anyone yet, Kimberly?" "What? of course not? I haven't even had a boyfriend yet, isn't that obvious" I said more embarrassed. "Holy s**t, you're a virgin" he stopped "That f*****g awesome. I never been with a virgin before, this is perfect" I pushed him again "Stop f*****g around, Kyle, it’s not that funny" I said "Plus below average size isn't something I'm into" He looked at me offended "What makes you even think that you can handle it?" "I know I can" I said walking past him. He chuckled, which caused me to turn to him and his stupid smirk "Let's go home right now then. Let's see you put your money where your mouth is and test that theory" I turned to him with a smirk "Read my lip. Not. f*****g. Interested" He was about to open his mouth, most likely about to throw some pickup line at me but got interrupted by a girl calling his name. "Kyle" A blond headed girl with blue eyes called as she walked up to us. I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt. I wanted to judge her by the cover and immediately assume that she's after Kyle for s*x, but her outfit was making it hard not to do so. I watched toward us, more than likely aware of how her mini skirt was being lifted by wind, and chest bouncing out of her top as he swayed toward us. I was one of the most cringe worthy sight I have witnessed in my life. "Be nice" Kyle warned. He passed right pass me and right into Kyle's arms "What happened to you? you disappeared as soon as summer started" As soon as he pulled away, the rubbed the back of his neck "Yeah, I had to work through some s**t on my own" He said, the pointed in my direction with his head "You remember Kimberly, right?" She turned to look at me, then turned back to Kyle like I wasn't even there. "Everyone is going bowling at Mason's today after school" she said as she threw her arms around his shoulders "It's like a class field trip, only there won't be any teachers and way more fun" Mason's on Monday's have always been Kyle and I’s thing; They had half off and free refills of Kyle's and I's favourite ice-tea. Of course, he also knew that, because his head turned to me again when she asked him. It was impossible for us to go there now and have fun since everyone is going to be there and push Kyle into joining them. I knew that I end up being awkward and alone, so I gave him the go-ahead nod. "I already made plans with your mum" I lied, giving him an apologetic smile "Next Monday?"
