The servants were running everywhere knowing today was of upmost importance. “At least attempt to look happy Gabriel good lord.” “You act like being engaged to a beautiful woman to produce you an heir is the worst thing in the world!” “I have already told you how I felt about this father,” he said through gritted teeth. “Son, correction I have told you of the consequences of not following through with this, so I suggest you man up and act like an Alpha.” As the guest were filling in he had a foreboding feeling of dread in the pit of his stomach. He hated this is what his life had become! His father took the podium and everyone settled down. “Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for attending tonight, as you know as the previous Alpha to our pack my job was always to ensure the continuation of our pack.” Excited murmurs echoed throughout the hall. “We have been trying to expand our pack lands for sometime, and what better way to do so than with an Alliance with our neighboring pact the Moonstone pack.” “Tonight I am announcing the engagement of my son Alpha Gabriel Thorn and Lady Evelyn Moon.” May they have a prosperous and long Reign!” Many started cheering but there was some gasps as the single woman hoping to catch Gabriel’s eye came to the realization he was no longer an available bachelor. The doors swung open. Gabriel kept his eyes downward until the most beautiful scent hit him. The smell of strawberries and vanilla. He tried hard to not look up but the unnerving instinct won out. There walking down the hall toward him was the most beautiful women he had ever seen. She was escorted by her father, who had an evil smirk on his face. He knew her beauty was unmatched. He wanted to reach over and snatch the smirk of her father’s face though, no doubt this man was also behind his current situation. As her scent enveloped him, she looked up and met his gaze. She had the most beautiful green eyes he had every seen! However two could play this game, if this seductress thought a pair of pretty green eyes would be his undoing she would be sadly mistaken. Geralds face hardened immediately. As her father went to give him her hand he placed them immediately in his pockets. He saw the look of surprise on her face but did not care. How dare any of them think this was acceptable. Evelyn heard all the whispers, “little slut who does she think she is going after him?” “ little did she know he was with someone last night.” There child like giggles and whispers were giving her a headache. She didn’t want to be here anymore than they wanted her here that’s for sure. She steadied her breathing to prevent from saying something she might regret. She promised herself she would do what she needed to do to ensure Riley’s safety, praying to the Moon Goddess she wasn’t in over her head. Her parents smirks was enough to make her vomit. She wouldn’t give them the satisfaction. Her head was spinning. The voices becoming a jumbled mess, louder and louder until everything and everyone was spinning. She wanted to bolt and make a dash for the woods her anxiety reaching a new frightening level. She couldn’t take all the attention on her, she looked up for something to grasp. She saw the smirks on everyone’s faces and her disgusting parents in the crowd. The shameful women glaring at her, letting her know she was their new enemy. She knew she was going to pass out, she looked up and met Gabriel’s eyes, he was staring right at her, “help she whispered.” He caught her just as her legs gave out; before darkness took over came the most tantalizing smell of pine and leather and a jolt of electricity. What was that?
