A Curious Connection

535 Words
My office was my sanctuary, a place where I usually thrived on the fast-paced demands of my work. But now, it felt like a cage, with papers and files looming over me, reminders of the responsibilities I had neglected for the past two weeks. Nothing had seemed more important than my mother's well-being during her recovery. I had brought her home just yesterday, relieved to see her gradually regaining her strength. Her presence brought a sense of comfort and reassurance, and I couldn't bear to leave her side. However, she insisted that I return to the office today, understanding how significant my work was to me. I reluctantly obliged, knowing that it was a necessity. As I sifted through files and made calls, my thoughts kept drifting back to her. I decided to take a moment and give her a call to check on her. She picked up after a few rings, her voice warm and reassuring. She informed me that she was doing fine and had taken to watching her favourite show to pass the time. Then, she asked me a question that had been lingering in my mind as well. "Have you managed to fix the meeting with the young man who helped me?" Her curiosity mirrored my own, and I hesitated for a moment before responding. "Not yet, Maa, but I haven't forgotten about it. Something about his company's name is stuck in my head, and I feel a strange connection with him. It's as if I can understand the struggles he must have faced to build his business." My mother responded with a “hmmm”, but I could feel the smile on her face. I am aware that my mother is concerned about the fact that I don’t have a social circle and I am mostly busy with my work. So having the slightest possibility of having a friend can excite my mother without a doubt. I know Maa wants me to fall in love and have something precious in my life. She wants me to enjoy life to the fullest with my one and only. I told my mother that I would prioritise this meeting over anything else. Just as I uttered those words, my secretary, Jaxon, entered my office, bringing a new development. He informed me that the young man, Caleb Kazuki, had declined my request for a meeting. He had sent a message expressing that he had helped my mother out of kindness and didn't seek any thank-yous or rewards. Caleb's message intrigued me, and a sense of curiosity washed over me like a wave. I couldn't shake the feeling that there was more to this young man's story than met the eye. He had a humility that resonated with me, a sense of purpose that I wanted to understand better. Turning to Jaxon, I made a decision. "Find out everything you can about Caleb Kazuki and his business.” I want to know more about him, not to offer thanks or rewards, but to understand the person who stood by my mother when she needed help the most. There's something about him that draws me in, and I want to find out what it is.
