Jayden nodded, pulled Martha into his arms, and tucked the blanket around her.
"You two should get some rest," he said to Paul and Norma. "I've got Martha. She's in good hands."
Everyone relaxed a little once they heard that Martha was all right, and the tension in the room finally eased. One of the nurses smiled as she finished writing her notes.
"Mr. Jenkins and Ms. Levy are such a sweet couple. You don't see many men this patient and devoted."
The doctor nodded in agreement.
"In her condition, emotional support matters a great deal. You've done right by her, Mr. Jenkins."
Jayden went still for a second.
Then he spoke, and there was a chill in his voice now. "Thank you. You can all go."
The doctors and nurses hesitated, then quietly left the room.
Jayden's expression darkened.
