HOPE'S POV.
"Delta Hope."
I turned to see Amira approaching me with a large towel and a blanket in her hands.
"Here you go," she said, holding them out to me with a soft smile.
I returned the smile as I accepted them gratefully. "Thank you, Amira."
"You're welcome, Delta," she smiled before turning around and walking back to her task.
At twenty, Amira was the youngest of the healers in the royal pack. She and I weren’t exactly close, nor could I call us friends. I guess you could say she and I were… okay. That was the closest word for it. We always saw each other around, but the first time we actually talked was when she lost her mother a year ago, and the poor woman’s soul was having trouble passing to the other side because there was a secret she had withheld from her daughter, Amira, when she was alive. She came to me, and I helped in whichever way I could. Amira and I had been this way ever since. Okay.
"Delta Hope," Amira called again from where she stood tying what looked like roots into different bunches.
"Yes, Amira?" I asked.
"Would you like something warm to drink for the cold?" she asked.
I shook my head. "There's no need for that, Amira. I'm fine."
She nodded but still didn’t look away. It was at this point I knew she had something else to say.
"By the way," Amira finally started, biting her lip nervously, almost embarrassed. "There’s something I've been meaning to talk to you about, Delta. I hope I'm not being too much of a bother."
I shook my head, smiling weakly. "That’s fine, Amira, go ahead."
She opened her mouth but then suddenly hesitated, her eyes taking in the many people in the room. Sighing, she turned to me and smiled shyly. "Don’t worry, Delta. Later."
I was confused and a little curious, but I nodded anyway. “Alright. Come find me when you’re ready.”
She nodded. "I will, Delta."
She looked hesitant for a moment, then asked, "Will… um… will Enforcer Gabriel and the others be coming home for the upcoming events in a few weeks?"
It took me a moment to process her question, and I raised my brow at her.
Amira blushed and quickly looked away, hiding behind her hair.
“So that’s what this was about.” Fawn sighed in my head.
Amira has had a crush on my older brother for practically forever. The problem was Gabriel was too much of an i***t to notice. My brother was one of those men who couldn’t see the good ones in front of them. Instead, they preferred to go after the women who treated them like a pest.
I sighed, about to answer when Vera cut in, “Wait, which of the events exactly are you talking about?”
“I was about to ask the same question,” Aiden said, crossing his arms. “Don’t we have like fifteen events coming up in the next few weeks?”
I rolled my eyes. “Don’t be dramatic, Aiden. There are only two.”
The royal pack had two events coming up. First, Queen Liora’s birthday gala, and then the official ceremony in which Damon would be crowned and named the official heir to the throne.
“I was talking about both events,” Amira said, glaring at Aiden like he was the only one who spoke.
Then she turned to me. “So? Is he coming back, Delta?” she asked. "With the other Enforcers of course." She added quickly as if she actually believed she was fooling anyone.
I sighed. “I’m not sure yet. I haven't heard anything about the Enforcers coming back. And Gabriel, he hasn’t mentioned anything about coming home for the events, either," I explained.
Just like the other Enforcers in the royal pack, Gabriel’s time didn’t really belong to him. He went wherever the pack sent him and only returned home when he could. Currently, he was on a mission in the Nightclaw Pack, where he had been for the past six months.
Noticing the disappointed look on Amira’s face, I sighed. “Don’t worry, I’ll ask him when next we talk.”
Her eyes lit up immediately. “Really, you’ll do that?”
I nodded, giving her a small smile.
“Thanks, Delta,” she said, and then quickly turned away, probably to avoid anyone seeing the red tint on her cheeks.
Fawn sighed dramatically. “If only our brother could develop half a brain before it's too late.”
