5 The ventilation shaft only took him as far as Sector Two. Lukas couldn’t stay in there forever; the acrid scent of burning chemicals and toxic smoke had followed him all the way from the Main Laboratory where their attackers had most likely set fire to every lab in Sector One. Even if that weren’t the case, Lukas was not the type of man to sit in a dark, confined space and leave his team—and his cousins—to their fate. He’d rather wield his fists and his strength built over many years of Hedge Training to face whatever onslaught this new enemy threw at him than cower away in hiding.
