Mark's Pov
I could see the shock in her face as she stood still and cold. She was actually the person I was sent to assassinate, but she is not really someone I could kill for some revenge, hatred or something else lurking in the family.
“Good evening ma'am.” I was assigned to be Miss Aurelia’s driver.
“But mum? I thought we agreed I would be the one choosing my driver?” Aurelia said as she pouted to her mum, who in turn shot a glare at her.
“Listen, I want the best for you and I need you to comply and treat him nicely and not rudely,” she stressed the word rudely to her.
I could tell she was struggling with something inside, the disbelief and the fact that I was too Porsche at the party to be her driver.
“So introduce yourself then.” She pressed further.
“I am Mark Hilton, your new driver, Miss.” I couldn't stare much, but I made sure I looked confident and composed.
“You have been assigned to resume tomorrow by 8:00am, please make sure you are here on time. Thank you”. Mrs Helen turned and left.
I nodded and looked at her as she was bewildered.
I wanted to talk, but she didn't let me as she turned and ran upstairs.
I didn't know she was the person planned all this while by my dad to get assassinated. How I wish it was someone else, I thought.
She was the least expected right now. I had to refrain from asking any questions or behaving like I had seen her before. I turned to see her mother.
As she spoke to me, I could recognize the voice that called me earlier. It has all become clearer now: she wants to assassinate her own daughter because of wealth and ambition.
The conversation ended and I had to leave.
I saw the way her eyes searched mine for answers, and I knew I couldn't provide her with those answers she wished for.
She loves being in control and in the middle of everything around her. That I noticed at the club, but there was just something else that intrigued me.
I immediately made some phone calls and left the Cassons Empire.
Flashback…
I stood in shock as I saw her leave the club. She was indeed something though. And this was really sad news; her dad's dead.
I overheard my father some months ago making a deal with a woman for a man's murder. It's quite a coincidence, but still I don't want to make assumptions.
I couldn't let my eyes leave her as she left the club.
I fell on the couch. As I reached out for my keys and drove back to my apartment.
As I got in, all I could think of was the way her skin felt under my palms and her smile: that care free smile.
A phone call interrupted my thoughts as I checked the caller, and it was my dad.
I didn't have the strength to pick it up knowing he would start with his self-concerned assignment.
I went to freshen up . After that, I had to call him. Not knowing he would be on his phone, I immediately called, he picked up the first ring.
“Mark I….”
“Am on it dad, I know what you want to say already,” I answered uninterested.
“Make sure you do this job well. I will send you the address and the person to call. You will be her new driver.”
“Okay then.” I hissed and dropped the phone on the bed.
My phone rang, and I saw a text message from my dad, detailing the place and also a number to dial when I was going.
A call came in almost immediately,
No caller ID: showing it wasn't saved on my phone.
It kept on ringing.
I picked it up reluctantly, and I heard a middle-aged woman's voice on the other side of the line.
“I hope your dad has told you the details of this mission?”
“Yes Miss.” I didn't want to sound informal, so I responded curtly.
“Sure then, I expect accurate delivery and success. You're expected to come to the address given to you for a proper interview and meeting with my daughter.” She took a long breath after that and ended the call.
I looked at the call that just ended with questions but still I had to deliver.
I decided to take a nap, but still the mystery girl I saw today never left my head.
I woke up to realize it was getting late, and I had to go to the address given to me.
This is me in a totally new environment because of a business deal for my father.
I wanted to leave in my car, but it would seem a bit odd.
So I took a cab down to the Cassons.
I arrived, and the mansion was inevitably inviting. I met with the gatekeeper, who took me inside and then the maid.
I was asked to hold on a while as I waited for the owners.
I was shocked to the spot, as I saw those blue ocean eyes staring at mine.
So I realized that's all I needed with them for the day as I had to leave.
Present time..
I went back to my apartment. And I slept off.
I woke up to the sound of my alarm. I immediately put it off because the sound alone was already making me deaf.
I hate mornings. I cursed.
I had to start my driving duties this morning, so I hurried up to prepare fast. I did all that, and I was good to go.
Sent a text to my dad about the mission today: we will be ambushed on her way back, and she will be shot. “What an unlucky day!” I exclaimed.
I arrived at the Cassons just in time. I saw Aurelia walking towards the car as she was totally up with a different demeanor. It was shades of cold, calm, calculative and a little something.
“Good morning Miss Aurelia.” I opened the car door and she entered.
“Good morning Mark. I would love to have a smooth ride to the office, you know the directions, right?” She kept on with her phone without looking at me.
“Okay Miss, and yes, I do have the address.” I entered the car and drove out.
We got to the Cassons headquarters business building, we alighted, and I took her in.
“This is where you will wait till I am done for the day.” She showed me a space.
“Thanks, Miss Aurelia.” I looked at her and then she paused.
“Thank you once again, but you know that name you couldn't tell me at the club. I know it already. I would love us to be friends too, even if I have noticed your stiffness and all.” She chuckled a bit and gave a wink before she walked in.
Even in that cold aura, she still felt warm.
“What am I even thinking!” I yelled at myself
I sat there as I could see glances from the different colleagues, and they said they would be calm while talking to her.
A few moments later my phone rings.
I picked it.
“You have to follow the loneliest part while coming back to Miss's house, it has been planned already.” The voice dropped the call.
It will be today after all. I hope I am able to do this. I glared at my phone.
After she was done for the day, she met me in the space and gave me a genuine smile. The smile immediately turned to a cold face as she signaled me to come outside.
It was surprisingly awkward.
I smirked and followed.
We entered the car and I started the engine.
On our way, I could see her through the mirror engrossed in her files at the back. And going through them carefully. She indeed not only loves being domineering but takes other things seriously.
“Miss, hope you are okay?” I had to show concern.
“Not really, it's just these finances, it doesn't seem to balance.” She furrowed her brows and lifted her head.
“Okay then, I don't mean to interfere, but what about the accountant, any statement?”
“Nothing yet though, but I will have a board meeting tomorrow after the close of the will.” She sighed and rested her back on the seat.
“Okay, it will….”
“Please stop here, I have to pick up something for my mum.”
I parked. And she came out to go into the mall. I had to follow her.
She picked it up while we were coming. I was about to open her door for her to enter as I started hearing gunshots.
It was the assassin. They were shooting at the car from the other side. Another came through the back to shoot Aurelia. I should have let them but not now.
We went into a fight, and then he pulled the trigger.
I ran and pushed her away while it pierced through my skin.
They left almost immediately.
I could hear her crying and shouting.
“Mark!!, don't go, please open your eyes."
“Am fine, it's… j..ust a bu..llet.” I stammered.
I wasn't supposed to feel this weak, and it burns through my chest, down to my bloodstream.
I recognize this effect in our facility. It is poison. The bullet was poisoned.
“Mark! Please don't leave me! Don't you dare!” she said in between sobs.
“Am not leaving.” I was trying to reassure her and keep my eyes open.
But the darkness kept drawing me inside.
The last thing I could hear was the door slamming, and her screaming my name.
Before I blacked out.
