What is in the old barn??

1444 Words
Todd was happy with the choice he had made for himself and his family. City life was hectic and very stressful. So he made the choice to move his family into the country. When he was growing up he had heard about a farm that was still in the family. He had never been there, but sometimes it was talked about in the family. Apparently, in the early 1920s, the family stopped living on the farm for some reason. The family kept the land but the homestead was abandoned till recently, when Todd decided to purchase just the homestead. All the structures on the property had long since been torn down except a very very old barn at the edge of the homestead. It was odd the barn had actually been kept up all these years, at least on the outside. That is, when Todd first saw the barn he noticed all the warning signs posted around it. He also noticed all the doors and entryways were locked with multiple locks and chains. He had looked around the whole barn, and concluded that nobody was getting in there without their allot of effort. When he bought the homestead, it actually did not include the barn or the land directly around it, which didn't bother Todd at all. If the family estate that owned the farmland around the homestead wanted to keep up this old barn, so be it. So, in secret a year ago, he purchased the property and had a new house and garage built. A few months ago, he told his family the good news. He thought it might take some convincing, but actually everyone was excited about the move. So, recently Todd, his wife and their five kids, ages 15 11 11 8 5, moved in. Tony and Tabi were twins aged 11. They were inseparable, they were also the adventurous ones in the family. From the first day they moved in, the twins were drawn to the barn. At first, Todd was concerned, but he knew the twins could not get into the barn, so he didn't make a fuss over the matter. His wife and other children never went close to the barn, and had stated on more than a few occasions that they wanted something to do with the barn. Even Todd himself didn't like it, but the twins seemed drawn to it. At first, the twins, who were usually outgoing and friendly, started to change. They had grown silent and withdrawn, only conversing with each other. Todd himself had tried to find out information about the barn, but found nothing. When he asked locals about it, they said only, stay away from it, don't go near it. In fact, don't talk about it, just let it be. Unfortunately for Todd, he had allowed his twins access to it and now they were totally different children he didn't recognize. So one day he decided to hire a detective of sorts to help. Keri had taken Todd's case right away after hearing the basics, it was right up her alley. Unfortunately for Keri, her silent partner didn't want Keri to. In this case, in fact, Misty told Keri outright that she would not help anyway. She said Grover would not be going either. Misty had never ever been like this before, that unnerved Keri, but she had. That case already, and that family needed help. With or without Misty, Keri decided to go. Upon arriving at the farm, Keri noticed the barn right away. After meeting the family except the twins, who were not present at the house. Keri decided to introduce herself to the twins who were down by the barn. As Keri got closer to the barn, She sensed she was being watched. At the edge of the cornfield, a few rows in, she saw a man about her age staring back at her. Keri could see this man had a very kind face, but he had a look of worry on his face. Keri decided to move on. This man presented a new wrinkle in this case. He seemed out of place, almost like he didn't belong here at all. Keri proceeded on. As she got closer to the barn, she heard a loud shriek coming from inside the barn, then she saw the twins running away from the barn with their backs to Keri. At about 100 feet from the barn they stopped suddenly and turned around, now facing Keri. Both the twins' eyes were piercing blue in color, and both were laughing. Then the boy spoke...I Wouldn't Go Any Closer Keri If I Was You...then the girl said the same thing. Keri was stunned they knew her name. How??? Keri finally reached the barn. As she walked around the barn, she was being paced by something inside. After walking around the whole structure, Keri realized it was locked up solid. She stopped at one door that had four ancient locks on it. The average person would never be able to open these locks, but Keri was a master at opening locks. Before Keri started on the locks, Keri decided to peek through the slats in the wall, the barn appeared empty till she saw it moving back and forth inside, then it finally stopped and looked directly at Keri, it had piercing blue eyes...then it spoke...DO YOU WANT TO COME IN KERI???... At that same moment, the skies grew dark and Keri could hear thunder close by, then the hard rain started...Keri knew in that second it would be unwise to enter this barn with that thing inside all by herself. If Misty was scared of this thing inside, it would be wise to leave right now. Keri thought to herself, this case is beyond me without Misty by my side. Before Keri could turn around and head back to the house, she felt a human presence behind her. Before she could react, she felt a sudden rush of electricity go through her body, then lights out. A few minutes later Keri woke up groggy, she was handcuffed and hanging upside down inside the barn, and instantly she saw it walking slowly around her in the barn, laughing ever so slightly...then it spoke...NOW YOU WILL EXPERIENCE WHAT THEY DID TO ME LONG AGO...THEN WE CAN BE HERE TOGETHER FOREVER KERI... Keri could see more clearly now, and out of the corner of her eye she saw that same kind-faced man from the cornfield...who was he, Keri thought to herself. Then the man stepped from the shadows to face whatever it was that lived in this barn for so long, when it realized something else was there...it let out a hellish shriek... Before it could react, the kind-faced man was upon it...Keri watched as the man struggled with this unholy spirit...after a few minutes, the man-won the struggle, and Keri watched the unholy spirit float up to a high beam, where it perched-shrieking at the kind faced man man, who was now helping Keri down... Outside, Keri could hear the wind howling, then heard a cracking sound hit the barn. The kind-faced man yelled at Keri to get out now, as Keri started running for the open door. Out of the corner of her eye she saw the perched unholy spirit start floating towards her. Keri picked up her speed and finally she reached the open door. Before Keri slammed the door shut she saw the kind-faced man and the unholy spirit slowly circling each other. The unholy spirit was shrieking ever so loudly at the kind-faced man, the kind-faced man winked at Keri...then Keri slammed the door shut and locked it back up, but Keri realized instantly this was a futile action. The barn was now on fire...Keri ran for the house... A few days later, Keri drove out to the homestead after checking out of her hotel to say goodbye to the family... Todd informed Keri that in the rubble of the barn they had found a buried skeleton of a young woman long dead. But he was happy that the twins were now acting normal again. Keri was happy about this as well. As Keri was leaving she noticed the kind-faced man in her jeep. As she approached him, she asked him what his name was...he said my name was PAUL... After thanking Paul for his help, she turned towards her jeep and sitting in the front seat was Misty smiling back at her. Sitting in Misty's lap was a barking Grover... As Keri was backing up she noticed Misty was waving at Paul... Keri smiled to herself... The End For Now...
