Nyl’s POV
The moment I read the dossier Farr brought back from her meeting with Aureline, something inside me cracked.
She wasn’t bluffing.
Some of it was forged but not all. The land transfers were real. The offshore accounts existed. And the paternity test? It wasn’t about me. But it was someone I trusted. Someone I’d had dinner with just last week.
“A board member?” I muttered, pacing my office. “She planned this for years.”
Farr sat on the couch, arms wrapped around her knees.
“She threatened everything you built, Nyl. But she doesn’t own us.”
I looked at her, this woman who’d been thrown into my world by chance and who now stood at the center of every fire in it.
“I’m calling a press conference,” I said.
Her eyes widened. “What?”
“We’re ending this. Not in silence. Not in shame. They want a story? We’ll give them the truth.”
She shook her head. “You’ll be crucified.”
I knelt before her.
“Then we burn together.”
Farr’s POV – The Press Conference
The media room at Davis Holdings was packed.
Flashes. Murmurs. Tension so thick, I could taste it.
Nyl walked in first calm, composed, lethal in a navy suit. I followed seconds later, hand in his.
He stepped to the podium.
“I’m not here to deny anything,” he began. “Yes, I fell in love with someone unexpected. Someone extraordinary. And no, I don’t regret it.”
The room buzzed.
He nodded to me.
My turn.
I took a breath.
“My name is Farr Mondragon. I was his assistant. I am now his partner. Not because I wanted power but because I found someone who made me feel seen for the first time in my life.”
Click. Flash. Silence.
I went on.
“There’s a pattern in this world where love is punished if it doesn’t follow a script. But I refuse to be shamed for falling in love. And I refuse to disappear quietly.”
There was a pause.
And then clapping.
Not all. But enough.
Aureline’s POV
I watched the press conference from my hotel suite.
She had guts. I’d give her that.
But guts don’t win wars.
I poured another glass of wine and smiled coldly.
Let’s see how they handle the next blow.
Because I was just getting started.
