“It’s a lunch, Dad,” Everlyn said into the phone. “You, mom, James, and I are all going to sit down and finally talk about what’s been going on. It’s way past overdo.”
I couldn’t hear his response, but he had been giving Everlyn the run around about his visit with me. She was furious with him when he came to see me and tore him a new asshole as soon as I hung up with her that day. He was distraught but he agreed to at least have a sit down with me, which he’s now postponed at least twice already.
“Yes, we will be there at one,” she said. “We will see you soon. Please try to keep mom out of the liquor cabinet. I’d like her to be at least somewhat coherent today. Okay, I love you too. Bye dad.”
