Ever since the two others that have been shot and killed, Everlyn has been having doubts that her father was responsible. Her guilt wasted with her a lot and it’s taken a toll on her work, causing her more problems. The only positive there’s been is the pain is starting to ease up. I can go a few more hours in between needing to rest.
“What have I done?” Everlyn wept. “I shouldn’t have accused him so quickly.”
“It’s not your fault,” I said rubbing her back. “At the time I was the only victim, it only made sense.”
“But it’s my fault those other men got shot,” she said. “Had the police not been wasting time looking into my father, then they could’ve been out there finding the shooter.”
“Shhh,” I whispered to her and pulled her close. “You don’t know that for sure.”
