Episode 6

As we sat there in the cabin, the fire crackling in the fireplace, I couldn't help but feel a sense of sadness wash over me. Amanda's eyes were red-rimmed from crying, and I could see the pain etched on her face. "I'm so sorry," she whispered, her voice barely audible. "I'm sorry for everything." I took her hand in mine, feeling a surge of compassion towards her. "You don't have to apologize, Amanda," I said softly. "We're in this together now. We'll face whatever comes our way." Amanda smiled weakly, and I could see the tears welling up in her eyes again. "Thank you," she said, her voice cracking. As we sat there in silence, the only sound being the crackling of the fire, I couldn't help but think about the fragility of life. How easily it could be taken away from us, leaving us with nothing but memories and regret. Suddenly, Amanda spoke up, her voice barely above a whisper. "I want to tell you a story," she said, her eyes locked onto mine. "Okay," I replied, my curiosity piqued. "It's about a girl who fell in love with a boy," she began, her voice trembling. "They were young and happy, and they thought they had their whole lives ahead of them. But fate had other plans." As Amanda spoke, I felt a lump form in my throat. Her words painted a picture of two young lovers, torn apart by circumstances beyond their control. "The girl was diagnosed with a terminal illness," Amanda continued, her voice cracking. "She knew she didn't have much time left, but she wanted to spend what little time she had with the boy she loved." I felt tears pricking at the corners of my eyes as Amanda's words brought the story to life. I could feel the pain and sadness emanating from her, and I knew that this was more than just a story. "The girl planned a scavenger hunt for the boy," Amanda said, her voice barely audible. "She wanted him to remember her, to know how much she loved him. But she also knew that she wouldn't be there to see him finish the hunt." As Amanda finished speaking, I felt a wave of sadness wash over me. The story was heartbreaking, and I couldn't help but wonder what had happened to the boy and the girl. Amanda's eyes locked onto mine, and I could see the tears streaming down her face. "I'm sorry," she whispered. "I didn't mean to make you sad." I pulled her into a hug, holding her close as she cried. "It's okay," I said softly. "Sometimes, sadness is what we need to feel." As we held each other, I knew that our story was far from over. We still had to face the challenges that lay ahead, but for now, we could just be there for each other ¹.
