"Tanya," William warned. Stopping a few feet before her. His sudden halt prompted me and Kaelen to stop right behind him. This woman, Tanya, did not look at William. Her brown eyes remained locked on me and I narrowed my eyes at her. I was not in the mood for whatever she was trying to do. "So it was true," Tanya said, tilting her head at William. "You pushed me aside, just so you could marry and bring a bloodsucker into our home. I really am surprised, William. Everyone expected a true Luna who understands our ways, someone who can actually submit to an Alpha. Is this thing even capable of obedience?" I did not let her finish her assessment of me and stepped around William, intentionally closing the distance between us. And returned her gesture, letting my eyes fall down her gray blazer, her black trousers, and back to her face in a slow manner, just as she had done to me. I really did not care what position she was supposed to hold here but I would not be disrespected. I let out a loud sigh, making sure the disgust on my face was entirely visible. I was tired, and entirely out of patience with her. "Obedience," I drew slowly, so my words sunk in for all of them. "Is a type of behavior meant for dogs like you." The loss of control over my own life during the last two days had left an anger inside me that needed an outlet, and this woman was offering herself as one. “Call us dogs all you like. But last I checked, it's our Alpha who holds your leash now. You're nothing more th—” "I dare you to finish that sentence," I cut her short. Taking another step forward, forcing her to look up slightly to meet my eyes. Tanya was taken aback. She looked past my shoulder toward William and Kaelen, clearly seeking their intervention or support. Neither of them gave it. William remained completely still, his hands in his pockets, while Kaelen kept his arms crossed. Realizing she was not getting backing from her Alpha, Tanya’s expression hardened. She opened her mouth, her lips parting to speak another word to me. But before any words could leave her, I slapped the words right back into her mouth. So hard, that the sound echoed off the walls. The impact sent her head sideways, and her neck snapped to the right with a crack. Broken. She stumbled back against a wooden pillar, and her eyes turned black, the skin around her hands began to thicken with brown fur as her bones started to shift for a transformation. That was when Kaelen stepped between us, he gripped Tanya by the chin and the back of her head, and forcefully twisted her neck back into its proper position with a loud pop. "I will take care of it," Kaelen informed William, his grip tight on Tanya's arm as he began to lead her away. William nodded once, watching them walk off until they disappeared down the hallway. Then a small sigh left him as he rubbed at his temple. Good; at least I wouldn't be the only one frustrated and stressed out. "This way," William said. He turned and led me toward a wide flight of wooden stairs. I followed him up to the top floor, where he unlocked a door. It opened into a private, multi-level apartment. The lower floor contained a modern living area with a white sofa, a kitchen with dark stone countertops, and a balcony. Above the living space was a loft bedroom. The entire upper level was open, surrounded only by a black railing that overlooked the kitchen and living area below. I walked up the short spiral staircase to the loft, everything smelled of him, it was overwhelming. "Make yourself comfortable," William said from the bottom of the stairs. "You are free to use anything you like." I walked to the railing and looked down at him. "Now what?" "Now, it is time to restore my pack.” "What does that even mean?" "You will see." I narrowed my eyes at him, but his face remained completely blank. I let out another loud obnoxious sigh determined to find a way to make his life just as difficult as he was making mine. I turned away from the railing and walked over to the bathroom. It took me several minutes to unfasten the row of hooks on the back of the wedding gown, but once it was done, I stepped out of it and got into the shower. The hot water sprayed over my body, but my attention was fixed entirely on the wedding ring resting on my finger. I was married. Astrid Lancetti was married. Then the reality of the situation fully hit me; I wasn’t a Lancetti anymore, I was a Winchester. A quiet whine of frustration escaped my throat, but I forced myself to stop. This won't be for long, I told myself, staring at the tile wall. This is temporary. I would find a way to get rid of William. When I was finished, I stepped out, dried off, and put on an oversized black sweater that fell all the way down to my knees. I grabbed my phone from the counter and walked down the spiral staircase of the loft. William was nowhere to be found in the main living space. So I sat down on the couch, and dialed Yui. She picked up on the very first ring. "Tell me you have something," I said into the receiver, keeping my voice low. "I might have something," Yui replied on the other end, her voice muffled. "But I don't know if it will be of any immediate help to you yet—" The door of the apartment clicked and swung open. I immediately tapped the screen and ended the call, sliding the phone face-down onto the cushion beside me. William paused by the door, his gaze moving from my face down to the phone, and then back up to meet my eyes. Then he slowly closed the door behind him and locked it, the sound echoing in the quiet room. "Who were you on the phone with?" he asked. I rolled my eyes, leaning back against the armrest. "Yui. Or am I not allowed to make phone calls anymore?" "You are free to do as you please," William answered, taking a step toward the center of the room. A broad smile spread across my face at his words and I opened my mouth but he cut me off before the first word could leave my lips. "Aside from feeding and going after anyone sexually." And just like that, my smile was gone. "You are no fun.” William only hummed in response as he looked down at me, his eyes trailing the hem of the oversized sweater where it met my thighs, then raised his gaze back to mine. Without saying another word, he reached for his tie and began to get undressed. Draping the white suit pieces over the couch one after the other. I sat there and watched him, my eyes following the movement of his hands until my gaze fell down his chest to the distinct tent in his boxers. I snapped my focus back up, only to find his green eyes already fixed on me. He raised a single eyebrow. I rolled my eyes again and fell back into the cushions so I was laying on my back. "What is Dario Ken's deal?" I asked, staring at the wooden beams of the ceiling. "Why was he invited to our…wedding ceremony?" "I am handling the situation," William’s voice came from the upper loft. He had already moved up the stairs while I was looking away. "That is not what I asked," I called out. "That is all you need to know for now," he replied. A moment later, the sound of his bare feet on the floorboards approaching the couch had me turn my head to see him standing near the foot of the sofa, now wearing nothing but a pair of gray sweatpants. I shook my head, turned away from him, and stared back up at the ceiling. "Wolves," I muttered under my breath.
