Luckily, Yui was able to get in touch with Allaston. And while he was skeptical at first about meeting me, he agreed only on the condition that I came to him.
That was why I was driving late after work to meet him. This all better be worth it, cause I didn't just give up my free time to go in search of dinner for him not to be useful.
I parked my car in the gravel lot of an isolated, dimly lit warehouse near the docks. Turned off the engine and stepped out into the cool evening air.
All this was absolutely unnecessary, what was he so afraid of that he had us met at an abandoned warehouse.
Allaston was already standing near a rusted iron shipping container, flanked by two large men in dark jackets. He was broad-shouldered, with a thick beard and a set of green eyes that resembled William's.
As I approached, his gaze moved slowly down my body and back up to my face. And I could almost see the hunger for using me as leverage in his eyes.
"I was definitely surprised when I heard you wanted a meeting with me," Allaston said, his deep voice carrying through the quiet space.
I let out a short sigh, refusing to waste my remaining energy on pleasantries. My head was still throbbing from the lack of blood, so I went straight to the point.
"You don't like William," I stated flatly, stepping closer to him. "And I am willing to spend my time helping you get rid of William and make you the Alpha that you so wanted to be."
Allaston went completely silent. He stood perfectly still for a long time, his eyes widening slightly before narrowing into slits as he stared at me.
“Where did you hear that?” He asked, adjusting his stance and shifting his weight as if I had just uncovered something that had been hidden.
“Does it matter?” I questioned back, narrowing my eyes at him, cause if he wasn't ready for this there was no need wasting any more of my time with him. “Do you want to be Alpha or not?”
Allaston glanced over his shoulder at his associates, before turning his focus back to me. His jaw clenched.
"What's in it for you?" Allaston asked again, his voice dropping into a suspicious growl. "Aren't you the one who just married him?"
"Do not worry about that," I told him, keeping my arms folded to mask the slight tremor in my fingers from starvation. "Think of it like the enemy of my enemy's situation. I get what I want, and you get what you want. Which is to be Alpha."
I looked around the open lot. The sky was getting darker as the final rays of the sun set behind the industrial buildings, leaving us in the dark of the oncoming night. My physical limits were reaching their peak, and I needed to leave before my composure broke entirely.
I turned my head back to Allaston, raising an eyebrow. "Well?" I just need to know if he was willing to work alongside me. Then, we’ll proceed from here.
Allaston shifted his feet again, his fingers twitching against his jacket sleeves. He was oddly indecisive for some who wanted to lead others. I watched impatiently as his brow furrowed in deep thought. After a tense silence, he slowly nodded his head once. "Alright," he said.
"Good, I will reach out," I told him. Without wasting any more time, I turned on my heel and walked back to my vehicle. Leaving Allaston and the warehouse district behind.
"Where did you go?" William asked the moment I walked into our apartment and closed the door.
He was standing on the loft, his hands resting firmly on the railing, wearing only a pair of sweatpants.
I rolled my eyes to myself, keeping my face turned away from him. "Work," I muttered under my breath but I knew he would pick up the word anyway.
It really has been a long day of starving and walking in here just made it worse, I could feel the blood rushing in his veins even from this distance. I dropped my bag onto the coffee table with a heavy thud, and slipped my shoes off my feet.
A long sigh escaped my lips as my vision blurred slightly at the edges, I turned around to head toward the kitchen, but my body jerked back a little. William was right there, standing directly before me. I had not heard a single footstep or felt the air shift as he approached.
I frowned, my eyebrows drawing together as I looked up at him, but my focus involuntarily drifted to his lips, noting the fullness of them, and how soft they were.
William slowly reached out, and softly caressed my face. His palms were incredibly warm against my cold skin, and it brought me to a strange calm that my eyelids fluttered shut, and I found myself basking in his scent and the intense heat radiating from his body.
It was an involuntary reaction to the proximity of a food source, I thought to myself. Nothing more.
"You left the office after hours for an unusual meeting," he murmured, his voice low and vibrating against my body. "One that wasn't anywhere on your schedule."
My eyes snapped open at his words. The temporary haze vanished, replaced by a sudden rush of adrenaline. I raised my arms and slapped his hand hard off my face, knocking his wrists aside.
"Since you watch me so closely," I said, my voice dripping with venom as I tried to step around him, "then you should also know that the A.S.A. District Director paid me a visit today."
I made a move to walk past him, but William's hand shot out and his fingers wrapped around my upper arm and tugged, sending me backward onto the couch.
Before I could even realize what was going on, he was hovering over me, settling himself directly between my legs to pin me down.
He planted one hand flat on the cushion beside my face, holding his weight up, and leaned down until his breath brushed against my nose and his gaze locked with mine.
"I don't care about that," William said, his voice dropping into a dangerous tone. "What I want to know is why you met up with Allaston."
