Divorce Court

1196 Words
The day of the trial had arrived. Ana had attended the court alone, appearing calm and confident. In contrast, Charles had come with Camila, their faces showing no sadness, only a semblance of peace. Ana had clucked her tongue, casting a cold glare at Charles and Camila. "What a venomous snake. How dare they flaunt their relationship in public!" she had hissed, her face contorted in disgust. When Charles had spotted Ana, his expression had quickly shifted to one of sadness. He had hurried over to his wife, pleading with her to reconsider the divorce. "Ana, I still love you. Please don’t divorce me," he had begged, hoping to sway her decision. A smile had played on Ana’s lips. "Still in love? Is this a joke? A married man shows up at his divorce hearing with another woman, and you still ask me not to divorce you?" Her cynical question had made Charles stiffen with embarrassment. Charles had been left speechless. He had remained silent as he entered the courtroom. Once the divorce proceedings had begun, Charles had been taken aback by the evidence Ana presented. She had submitted photos and messages proving the affair between Charles and Camila. The judge had listened to the explanations from the lawyer, the plaintiff, and the defendant. After considering everything, the judge made a wise decision: to grant Ana's request for a divorce. Thus, Ana and Charles had been officially divorced. Ana had felt a profound sense of happiness and relief. She had hurried out of the courtroom, eager to avoid looking at the two people who had betrayed her. Before she could leave, Charles had rushed toward her, attempting to persuade her once more. "Ana, wait! We can talk about this calmly," he had said, moving closer to her. However, two bodyguards had arrived and blocked Charles's path. Camila, who had been standing behind them, had been shocked. She had whispered to Charles, “Since when did Ana hire bodyguards? And why has her attitude changed?” Charles had been left confused by the sudden appearance of the bodyguards. With a cold expression, he had ordered, “Move aside!” The bodyguards exchanged glances and promptly pushed Charles back, causing him to collide with Camila. “Please leave!” they had shouted sternly. One of the bodyguards had opened the door for Ana. She had gotten into the car, followed by her two bodyguards. As the car had started to move, Ana had heard Charles's frustrated shouting in the distance. “Ana! Listen to me first! I can explain all this!” In the car, Ana had let out a long breath, feeling a slight relief from the weight on her shoulders. The day's events were just the beginning; she was uncertain about how Charles and Camila might retaliate. “Ms. Ana, are you okay?” one of the bodyguards had asked in a heavy voice, interrupting her thoughts. “Yes, I’m fine,” Ana had replied, offering a genuine smile. Back at the apartment, Angel had been waiting with a mix of emotions. As soon as Ana opened the door, she embraced her best friend with a joyful and cheerful demeanor. Ana had finally managed to execute her plan. “How was the trial? Did it go well?” Angel had asked, already curious. Ana had invited Angel to sit down and then explained, “Everything went well. Charles and I are officially divorced. Angel, I did it!” Her happiness had been evident, and it had made Angel happy as well. “I’m glad to see you so much happier!” Angel had said, hoping that Ana would continue to stay as positive as she was now. He had been relieved to see Ana’s gloomy expressions replaced with joy. “Thank you,” Ana had replied, expressing her gratitude. She would never forget Angel's support, which had been crucial in reaching this point. “Angel, we should celebrate this victory. I’ll treat you to a restaurant!” she had said enthusiastically. They had gone to celebrate the victory at their favorite simple restaurant. At a table in the corner, Ana and Angel had eaten heartily. They had looked so happy, laughing together and momentarily forgetting all the chaos that had preceded. Angel had rested her face in her lap, gazing intently at Ana. “Alright. Now that the divorce is over, what are you going to do?” she had asked. Ana tapped her chin a few times and then placed her hands on the table. “I have many plans. But my primary goal is to get revenge on Charles and Camila. They need to face the consequences of their actions.” “Are you sure? I think you’ve been through so much already. Ana, as your friend, I don’t want to see you in tears again,” Angel had expressed her concern. She had feared that Ana’s plan might backfire, and Ana’s sadness had been her own. Ana had taken Angel’s hand. “Angel, listen carefully. I’m not the old Ana anymore—the submissive one who wouldn’t stand up when people wronged her. I’m different now. You might be surprised at how much I’ve changed.” Angel had still been worried. “But... I’m afraid you’ll get hurt,” she had said, her voice trembling with anxiety. Ana had shaken her head firmly, her tone growing stern. “I will not be a woman who is easily manipulated. I’m the new Ana now. Let’s just say the weak Ana you once knew is gone.” Angel had been surprised by her best friend's words. There had been no hint of doubt in Ana's tone; she truly seemed like a different person. “Is that so?” Angel had asked, seeking confirmation. “You have to believe me,” Ana had replied, her demeanor firm and resolute. “Okay, I believe you!” Angel had said, confident in her trust. She had picked up her glass and toasted, “To the new Ana!” The two of them had spent the evening sharing amusing stories. As the night wore on, Angel had left first, as she had a test at college the next day. Ana had been content to remain alone at the restaurant. To pass the time, Ana had begun to browse her cell phone, reading the latest news. An article about an over-aged billionaire CEO had caught her eye. She had examined the photo of the man closely. Despite being around 40 years old, he appeared youthful and handsome, with an athletic build. Ana had been intrigued by the CEO's news and had hired a detective a few days earlier to keep tabs on him. While she had been reading, a message had arrived on her cell phone from an anonymous number. It informed her that the CEO would be attending a meeting at Hotel X that night. Ana's lips had curled into a smile. It turned out that hiring the detective had been worthwhile. This information was particularly valuable to her. Excitedly, she had said to herself, “Perfect. This is a golden opportunity. I must meet the CEO tonight.”
