Chapter 15

After breakfast,

Christabel showered, got dressed and opted to leave,

She said she was going out with Frank and might not be back till evening,

"But.."

"Enitan,

I want to spend the day with him,

Not like you would be alone,

Dayo's here and you guys need to talk,

Don't go on pretending that all is okay when it's not,

Bye."

She gave her a peck which Enitan winced at,

"Stop being a baby." She said and went to the living room where Dayo was watching football.

"Dayo,

Take care of my girlfriend for me o,

Let me step out for you guys to talk,

Make me proud." She told him,

He just smiled.

If there's one thing he likes about Christabel,

It's her open mindedness,

She's outspoken and speaks her mind all the time,

She's jovial and very lovable.

"Yes ma." He said to her,

She blew him a kiss and left,

He turned and Enitan was coming to the living room,

She walked to the seats and sat down on one.

His attention left the football he was watching and fell on her,

He could tell she was shy and wouldn't say anything to him,

Nothing at all till he says something.

"So what are your plans after service?" Dayo asked her,

She looked away from the TV and turned to him,

"Continue with the business." She said,

His brows knit in confusion,

"What business?" He asked her,

"Well,

I and Christabel have this business,

We started three months ago actually..."

"What business?"

He asked again,

"We sell clothes,

You know those boutique and all that."

"You girls have a boutique here in Abuja?" He asked absorbing what she just told him,

"Yes I would say that."

"Wow,

That's great,

Where's it located?"

"Suite 11 and 12,Vince Gold Shopping Complex in Victoria Avenue,"

"I know that Plaza,

Wow so you guys have two shops there?

That's really impressive.

So what's it about you and that guy?

The one you guys were with last night,

Ehm…..Kelly,

What's with you two?" He asked her,

She looked at him,

"He was asking me the same thing last night,

He was asking about you too,

What's wrong with you guys?"

"Nothing actually,

But good he asked,

What did you tell him?" He asked her,

He wanted to know what she told him and what position he held in her life too.

"What I told him?

I told him you're my friend and he went on and on doubting me..."

"So am I your friend?" He asked her peeking at her,

She looked away,

"Why not?

We're friends,

I'm friends with everyone." She managed to say,

His gaze was on her and it was making her uncomfortable.

"Please stop staring at me like that." She mumbled,

Hopefully he heard it and chuckled,

"Why?

I love it when you're like this." He joked,

"Not funny." She said,

"Okay."

To make her comfortable,

He decided to change the topic,

They talked about his work,

What and what project he was handling now and mostly what brought him to Abuja,

She talked about her work too and how the business has been going so far.

He said he would tell his friends and partners about her so they'll start patronizing her while he was going to drop by before leaving for Lagos,

They exchanged numbers again and even their social media links too.

Christabel didn't come back that night,

When Enitan called her,

She told her she was spending the night at Frank's but will be back by morning,

Enitan didn't find that funny.

"But you said you would be back by evening,

How do you expect me to sleep alone in this house?" She asked her,

"Sorry but I don't know what to do,

Frank wants me to spend the night with him,

Plus it's very late now,

I can't drive home alone."

Enitan sighed when she looked at the wall clock,

It was just nine pm at that time.

"Okay." She hung up the call and went back to the living room.

"She's not coming back home tonight." She told Dayo as she slumped on the seat and sighed in frustration,

"Ah,

Are they that serious?" He asked her.

Her eyes roamed around him in search of explanation,

"What does that mean?" She asked,

"Well they must be serious enough for her to sleep over,

Who sleep with an unserious guy?"

She winced her face in disgust,

She hadn't thought if that before,

"But they aren't married yet,

Why do it when they aren't married?"

Dayo almost laughed at her question but he chose not to,

After all,

She's still the naive Enitan he knew.

"You still haven't changed,

Well to your question,

People do it like this when they get pretty serious,

Though not everyone but most people does."

"Are you among that most people?

Do you do it when you're serious?"

He was surprised at her question,

He hadn't expected her to ask him that,

So he cleared his throat.

"Well for now,

I'll only do it with someone I'm serious with." He replied her,

"How does it feels like?

Oh sorry..."

"No you don't have to be,

It's normal to ask such question when you haven't done it,

I do ask my friends the same questions before I joined them,

It's normal."

"When did you start doing it?" She asked him taking her eyes away from him,

She find it odd she was having such conversation with him.

"Well to be very honest,

I started when I was fourteen,

It was this girl in our class then, Stella.

My friends and I had this bet,

I didn't want to lose and pay them,

So I did it with her in the school toilet."

It was funny recalling how stupid he was then,

But Enitan didn't find it funny.

"Fourteen!

Oh my God!

And in the school toilet,

Ewww!" She frowned in disgust,

"That was where I actually started,

By the time I got to twenty,

I'd slept with most all the girls I knew,

You changed me.

You really did and that was why I was very sad when you misunderstood I and Folake,

I was very sad then,

You didn't allow me explain myself,

It wasn't fair to me..."

"Sorry." She only said and his face lit up,

"So you have any guy yet?"

He inquired and she frowned,

"No,

Why should I get one?"

"Won’t you get married again?

You need to learn about men before you get married o!

You need to learn how to handle a man before being his wife cause men are like babies,

A lot of patience and learning I'd needed with them."

"Are you like that too?

Would your wife learn a lot before being able to handle you?"

She asked him,

He shook his head,

" Since you're a guy and my friend,

I've you,

I don't need a boyfriend,

You would teach me,

Wouldn't you?"

"Yes I'll."

That was all he could say to her,

How will she understand that that is taking him lot of self control right now not to make s****l advances at her,

She won't understand and he gladly won't explain,

They are friends and it matters a lot to him.

Dayo and Enitan stayed up till late night,

They watched Enitan's favorite Zee-World series together,

After which he changed the channel to an American Action Movie,

She gladly watched it with him.

Since he would be spending the night,

She mad a few arrangements for him in the spare room so he could crash there for the night,

A few minutes to midnight,

They called it a night and went into their separate rooms.

Like always,

Enitan woke up early the next morning,

She called Christabel to remind her of coming home so she could make it to school on time

She said she's almost leaving Frank's and would be back home in the next twenty minutes.

Enitan was bothered about her coming home early cause Christabel would drop her off at the bank before going to school,

Plus morning traffics are always bad,

Especially Monday morning's,

She didn't want to be late for work.

She went to the kitchen and boiled hot water for tea,

Then she put it inside the hot water flask before she went to shower.

When she came out almost an hour later,

Dayo was in the living room,

"Good morning." She greeted him,

"Morning,

How was your night?" He asked her,

"Good.

Join me for breakfast."

"Thanks but I don't eat this early.

When are you leaving?" He asked her,

"I'm supposed to be at the office latest seven,

I don't know what's still holding Christabel.."

"Let me drop you off at work,

If you wait for her,

Before you guys would leave today those road would have jammed and there's no how you would get to the office on time if that happens."

"Yeah it's true,

Join me for breakfast then,

We would leave after that."

She insisted,

"Okay." He pulled out a seat and sat opposite her.

She passed him the milk tin,

"I wonder how you eat all this and still never gets fat,

Is there anything sucking fat off your system?” He asked half jokingly and half seriously

She just chuckled,

"It's just my luck,

Just like my mom when she was alive,

We eat and don't get fat." She said,

He looked at her,

A flash of pain,

It went as it came, not staying even up to a second,

He was lucky he saw it all,

She missed her mother.

"She's proud of you Enitan,

She's very proud of you." He told her,

She just nodded and continued her breakfast.

After breakfast,

Enitan locked the door and kept the spare key for Christabel,

She got into Dayo's car and he drove her to work,

Since the main road has been blocked,

Dayo decided to take a shortcut his cousin had told him about.

Luckily for them,

Not much cars where taking that way,

So they were able to get through in a few minutes.

They got to the bank a few minutes to seven,

"Wow,

You just saved my head,

That our manager is always looking for something to talk about or nag about every morning,

I really don't want to be that unlucky fella this morning.

Thank you so much."

She thanked him,

Dayo smiled,

"You don't have to,

Anything for you."

She didn't know what to say to him,

So she just nodded.

"I should start going now,

See ya later." She opened the door and pushed it,

"Have a nice day."

"And you too."

She picked her bag and walked in,

When he was sure she'd gotten inside the building,

He turned on the car engine and drove off.

Damn!

He’s never letting her leave his sight again,

He swore to himself.
