Chapter 14

Three months later,

Enitan was juggling handling the business and going to work,

She went to work from Monday to Friday afternoon and stayed at the shop on Saturday,

Christabel helped out too but she was mostly with Franklin.

They were getting pretty serious now,

He met her father twice and Chief said he likes him,

His parents were in Delta State but he assured her that they would go visit them sometime in the future.

"Frank said he want to take us out tonight." Christabel told Enitan,

They'd just returned home from the shop and Enitan was trying to prepare dinner like always.

"You mean he wants to take you out,

That's good,

I'm not coming." She told her,

Christabel frowned immediately,

Enitan has made it a mental note to keep herself at arms length or equivalent from every guy and she doesn't like that,

She wants her to free herself and have fun.

"C'mon girl,

You need to go out and flex,

Just locking yourself up like this,

It isn't good." She admonished her pleadingly,

Enitan said nothing.

"Enitan please,

It's bored being there without you,you know.

When Franks talks to his friends,

I always look for someone to tal--"

“You who find it easy to strike up a conversation with anyone is telling me about boredom,

Mtchew."

She shook her head,

"Yeah you caught me right there,

But I'm just trying to help you,

You need to go out and flex you know,

Have fun,talk to people and make new friends."

"Okay I’ve heard you." Enitan sighed,

She wasn't still convinced but finally agreed,

"So you're coming with me?"

"Yes I'm."

Christabel was so happy Enitan finally agreed to coming.

Actually she was setting her on a blind date with one of Frank's friend,

The guy's very nice and she hoped Enitan would like him.

At the party,

Enitan was very uneasy,

They were seated at a round table for four,

While Christabel was seated next to Frank on the right,

Enitan on her left side had Frank's friend beside her and the guy wouldn't stop talking to her even when it was obvious she was ignoring him..

"I like your skin color,

Are you a model?" He asked her,

She shook her head,

"You should venture into one,

I know of a model agency and I will talk to the--"

"I'm not interested."

"Your voice's so lovely,

You should talk more often,

I love your voice."

She stood up immediately,

"Excuse me." She left the table and headed for the restroom,

"Was I too fast?" Kelly,Frank's friend asked Frank and Christabel,

"No you weren't,

She isn't use to male attention but seriously,

You're doing great." Christabel encouraged him.

"Okay let me go talk--"

"No!

You would ruin things for yourself,

Allow her,

Wait till she returns.." She warned him,

He nodded and adjusted himself waiting for Enitan to come back.

Meanwhile at the bathroom,

Enitan was already regretting why she followed Christabel here,

She thought she would be able to relax but that talkative won't just allow her be,

He has to talk,to say something..

She sighed,

"If I'd known that coming here would be this way for me,

I would have just stayed home and watch TV till I fall asleep."

When she finished,

She splashed water on her makeup free face and dried it with her handkerchief,

She was about leaving the female restroom when she heard a familiar voice from outside.

"Aren't you done there?

When I asked you not to drink that concoction,

You refused,

Now see what you've done to yourself."

The familiar male voice mused at whoever he was talking to.

Enitan rushed out of the ladies restroom to see him,

He was wearing a black polo and a black jean,

His hands were in his pocket as he leaned his body by the wall

"Dayo." She called him,

He turned to her,

"Enitan." He called her too and the next thing he came close and hugged her.

"Ah Enitan,

How far?" He asked her when they disengaged,

"I'm good,

What are you doing here?" She asked him,

"Well I should be asking you that,

I roam freely everywhere because of work,

What brought you here?" He asked her,

"Service." She replied him.

"That's good,

I heard you graduated with first class,

That’s good,

Congrats." He told her,

She just nnodded

"So where do you live?

At least let me see where I can be eating free food,

This people can’t cook."

"Do I look like I can cook?" She asked him,

He nodded,

"Not like,

I know you can cook,

Your girlfriend said that was what attracted her to you first."

"Okay o,

Let me believe you.

Well,I live with Christabel in Hakeem Donsumu,

Number 2."

"Okay,

Maybe I'll drop by tomorrow and eat Sunday rice and chicken."

She just laughed,

"I'm serious o."

"No problem?"

Seeing Enitan return with Dayo,

Christabel was surprised,

"Ah Dayo,

You're here."

"Yeah,

Christy how far?"

"I'm great,

Meet my boyfriend Frank," She told Dayo,

Then turned to Frank,

"Frank,this is Dayo,

A friend of ours." She told him,

He shook hands with Dayo,

"And this is Kelly,

Frank's friend."

Dayo brought his hands to Kelly and they shook hands too.

"Dayo are you with anyone?" Christabel asked him,

"Yes my cousin brother,

He drank some concoction the barman gave him and now he's in the restroom."

"Hmm,

I was asking to know if you would join us here..."

"Don't worry about me,

We're about heading home too." He said to her,politely rejecting her offer,

"Okay o."

"Eni,

Good night,

Remember what I told you,I'm serious."

Enitan just nodded with a smile,

"See ya later guys." He waved at them and went back the restroom to get his cousin,

After which they left together.

"Who's he?" Kelly asked Enitan when she finally sat down,

"He's my friend."

She replied nonchalantly,

"Your friend,

Mhm

What kind of friend?."

"What does that mean?" She aasked,voice coated with anger but Kelly backed down in defense.

“Nothing at all,

Just that they say he was looking at you…mmm

I don’t know what to say though.

I’m a guy and I know when a fellow guy is looking at a lady as a friend and when he’s looking as something else..

But since you said he’s your friend,

Who am I to argue?” He explained to her.

Enitan didn't even know what to say to him,

Dayo is her friend and it's not like they just met newly,

He has been her friend for long not minding their misunderstanding and lack of communication,

So she chose to ignore what Kelly was saying,

He's just jealous.

Enitan was boiling rice the next morning when she heard the knock on the door,

Christabel was still sleeping in her bedroom,

So she left the kitchen to go see who was there,

It was Dayo.

"Ah Dayo,

Good morning." She greeted him with a smile,

"Good morning,

How're you?

Happy Sunday."

"Same to you.

Come in,

Come on in." She made way for him to come inside and when he did,

She closed the door.

"Wow,nice apartment you guys have here,

It's very nice." He commented looking around the living room,

Enitan just smiled,

"Thanks."

"Where's Christabel?" He asked her,

"She's still sleeping."

"Have you finished preparing Sunday rice?" He joked,

"Almost done."

"Okay,

Let me wait for you,

I'm very hungry."

"Let me get you something."

She left him and went to the kitchen while he sat down and took the TV remote.

She came back awhile later with a tray,

On it was a plate of peanuts and one bottle of soda,

"Manage this till I finish."

She kept the tray in front of him,

"Wow thank you so much."

She nodded and left again to finish what she was doing in the kitchen.

When she finished,

She went in and took a shower,

Then came out with a fresh clothes,

Christabel was awake already,

"Dayo's here,

He's in the living room and two,

I'm done with breakfast." She told her,

Christabel who was on her phone nodded and Enitan left.

"Sorry for keeping you waiting,

I'd to freshen up." She told Dayo,

He just nodded,

She went on and set the table then when to the kitchen,

Dished out the portion they would eat and brought it to the dining table,

The aroma filled everywhere immediately.

"My nostrils are dancing to the sweet aroma I’m perceiving now,

Wonder how it would be when I start eating." He told her,

"Stop please,

It's just like any normal food,

After all everybody can cook." She whined playfully,

"That's where you wrong,

Not everyone can cook,

If it's so,

Why's your babe still sleeping?" He asked her,

She just laughed but said nothing.

"Christabel!

Come and eat."

"I'm coming!" She yelled from her room,

“Please if she’s not coming,let’s eat already,

I’m starving to death…”

"I'm here."

Christabel said from behind them,

Then she pulled her seat and sat down.

"Dayo,good morning.” Christabel greeted Dayo,

“So you came to steal my partner right? She asked jokingly and Dayo chuckled,

“Steal?

Nah,I don’t steal people’s partner,

I take them.

So you better get ready to lose yours.” He jested,

"Please don’t steal her from me,” Christabel feigned a a hurt look,

“She’s my lifesaver here and without her,

I might just die.”

"Okay,

I will have pity on you now but be rest assured that I’ll still collec-"

"Guys let's eat please,

The food is getting cold." Enitan interjected,

"Okay ma."

"Yes ma."

She sighed and shook her head,

Then they began to eat.
