Chapter 2

A few days later,

Mrs Okawe drove Enitan to the place where she was to sign up for the scholarship program,

She got the form,filled it then handed it over to the secretary present.

The lady got to explain to them that the scholarship program was initiated by one of the wives of a senator who lives in Lagos,

The woman in question just wanted to reach and help young people who wanted to study and had no financial means of pulling through.

She even recommended another scholarship program she knew of to Enitan and Mrs Okawe and told her that it was good she applied for two places,

At least if one isn't working,

The other would.

She told them about the few organizations she knows that are running scholarship programs and also the State Government Scholarship Program,

Mrs Okawe saw it a good idea and they collected all necessary details for the other scholarships programs that were running at that time.

When Enitan got home that night,

She prayed about the scholarships and told herself she was going to read hard and get at least two scholarships,

She would make her mother proud,

Smiling to herself,

She went to bed.

The first scholarship exam took off a week after and Enitan was more prepared than ever,

Mrs Okawe drove her to the Max Life Foundation where the exam is to be held,

"Don't worry Eni,

You would do well." She assured Enitan who was a bit nervous,she nodded,

She would do well,

Her mother assured her that.

The exam commenced twenty minutes later,

There Enitan saw that she was one of the seven hundred people who were also taking the exam,

She promised herself that if not the highest,

She would make it out as the first ten people that would be chosen.The exam was quite tough putting it's questions were for higher institution,

She did the ones she was sure of before going down to the tougher ones.

While she solved,

She ransacked her brain for solutions to the problem.

When the time allotted to them elapsed,she wasn't happy at all.

From the ten questions given to them,she was able to pull down six correctly and four randomly.

"What happened?" Mrs Okawe asked her when she saw her gloomy expression after they came out from the hall,

"I didn't finish the question,

I could only answer six correctly,the other four I'd to just pick cause there was no time left." She complained,

The woman placed her right hand on her shoulder and gave her a reassuring smile,

"Even with that six,

You would do very well." She told her and Enitan just nodded,

She hope she does.

That week,

Enitan went from one exam hall to another,

Although she went more prepared than the first and promised to do better than the first.

She barely had time for work that week and her employers missed her,

"Not everyone works hard and diligently like Enitan." One woman said when she had to explain her that she couldn't work that week.

After the exams,

Enitan waited for the results and also read for her WAEC which was two weeks away,

She resumed working but this time she didn't sell sachet water again,

She ran errands,helped people with house chores and on weekdays after school,she goes to the market to help people with their goods.

One evening,on her way home after a strenuous day at the market,

She was close to their gate when she saw Dayo and Folake with two of their other friends coming out of the compound,

Not bothered about her looks,she walked past them,mumbling a greeting and went inside.

Halfway in,she heard someone call her,

"Enitan wait up."

It was Dayo calling her and she ignored him,

He didn't stop,

He ran to her and stopped her.

"What's it?" She asked him angrily,

"I want to talk to you,

I want us to talk Enitan." He said to her,

She just looked at him like he was a mad man spewing trash,

What would the rich and sophisticated Dayo wants to talk to her about?

"The other time I wanted to talk to you but you just ignored me like I'm nothing,

What's it?

Did I do anything wrong to you?" He asked her,

Still she said nothing,just stared at him.

"I like you Enitan,

I don't know when or where but I know I've seen you somewhere before,

You look familiar." He said to her expecting a reasonable reply but all she said was,

"Are you done?"

"Eni..."

"You should be cause I'm busy." She walked past him and went past the other flats to the back.

He felt insulted but wasn't angry,

This was the first time a girl walked out on him and he did nothing,

Rather he just watch her walk away.

Even in the faded and old khaki knicker she wore and the faded black oversized top,

She was still looking beautiful,

In fact the clothes no matter their poor appearance accentuated her beauty and he couldn't help but stare.

"Ha ha Dayo,

I thought you said you wanted to pee,

What are you still doing here?"

It was Folake asking him,

He turned to her and closed his mouth which he'd left a gap while staring at Enitan,

"I peed already," He lied,

"Okay,

The others are waiting for you outside." She told him,

He nodded and hurriedly left while she unsuspicious went inside her house.

Dayo wasn't himself throughout the drive home,

He'd agreed to go to Folake's house just because he knows he would see Enitan,

He has feelings for her and they just can't go away,

He thought of her every time and sees her whenever he closes his eyes.

Folake told him that she's an orphan and her mom had died last year,

She said she fends for herself by doing menial jobs.

He wanted to reach out,

He wanted to help her,

He likes her a lot,

He'd seen her somewhere before but he still can't recall when or where but like he told her,

She looks very familiar.

The first time he saw her walk into Folake's house,

He was endeared to her.

He didn't want to come actually but when Folake insisted telling them that she would be able to solve the problem,

He just wanted to go see this nerd that knows it all but when he saw her,

It was a different feeling altogether,

Should he say love at first sight?

He doesn't know whether it's love but he knows it isn't l**t.

Yes,everyone knows how he loves to go after everything in skirt,

Anything as long as it is on skirt,

He goes after it and won't relent till he sleeps with her,

He has a reputation in that aspect.

He'd slept with almost all the girls in their lesson center,

Even with Folake and her three friends,

He got the looks,the body and the money too but with Enitan,

He wanted something different,

Not s*x,

Just something different.

All his life he hadn't had to beg for anything,

His father is a very wealthy businessman,

He's the only son and he has three older sisters,

Two are married and are leaving abroad and the other is rounding up here Master Degree in UK.

His mother isn't the only wife but as at now she's,

Hid father’s first wife died while having her first child and his father married his mother.

She loves him dearly as her only son and would do almost anything for him.

His father is against the idea that he shouldn't work or be a man cause his father is rich but what can he do,

It isn't his fault that he was born into riches plus being the only son,

He's entitled to everything his father has.

He's almost twenty one and had sat for Jamb several times,

Those several times he failed,

He'd to pay someone to leak him the question cause he couldn't afford to fail again,

His eldest sister has promised him a Mercedes if he passes and he wouldn't want to fail to lose his gift.

He was talking about it to Josh when Folake and her friends overheard them and she promised she was going to help him get someone to solve the problem for him and that was when he saw her.

She was natural beauty,

Even in that old jeans and red polo she'd on,

He could barely concentrate on what she was teaching them.

Her speech,

She didn't sound like someone who attended a public school or worst live in a slum,

She's shy and reserved and at the same time she's determined and very serious,

He just wish she would give him a chance.
