The next morning dawned bright and cold. The world felt different—lighter, freer. For the first time in her two lives, Diana woke without dread in her heart. No more pretending, no more fear. The papers Nicholas had signed the night before lay neatly folded in her drawer, a symbol of the freedom she had fought so hard to win.
