Temptation and Betrayal

The moment the door closed behind Seraphina, the world outside seemed to disappear, leaving only the room’s dim lighting and the heavy silence between her and Alexander. They stood facing each other in the grand office, a vast space filled with dark wood furniture and rich leather chairs, but all she could focus on was the storm brewing in his eyes. “You came,” he said, his tone quieter now, yet somehow more dangerous. Seraphina swallowed hard, her mind racing. She couldn’t afford to lose focus, not now, not when she was so close to the deal she’d been hired to complete. But everything about this situation, everything about him, was drawing her in. Alexander had a way of making her feel like the world was spinning in his orbit, and she wasn’t sure how much longer she could keep her distance. “I said I would,” Seraphina replied, her voice steady despite the tension. “Now, let’s get to the business.” Alexander stepped closer, his presence commanding and overwhelming. He didn’t touch her, but it felt as if the air around them crackled with unspoken energy, pulling her toward him with every step. “Business?” he echoed, his lips curving into a half-smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes. “I wonder if you’ll be able to separate business from pleasure, Seraphina.” She took a deep breath, pushing away the fluttering in her chest. She wasn’t here for that. She had a job to do, and she would not let anything distract her. Not even the dark, magnetic pull of this man. “I’m here to help with your company’s expansion,” she said, crossing her arms in a defensive gesture. “I’m not interested in anything else.” Alexander studied her for a moment, his gaze intense as if trying to see into her soul. It made her skin prickle with unease, but she refused to back down. “Are you sure about that?” he asked softly, taking another step toward her. The closeness made her heart race, and she could feel her resolve starting to crack. “Because I’m not just any man, Seraphina. And this…” He gestured between them, his eyes darkening with intent. “This is something neither of us can control.” Her breath caught in her throat as he reached out, his fingers grazing her cheek in a touch so light it almost felt like a ghost. Her body tensed, and yet, she couldn’t pull away. His touch was magnetic, and for a moment, she found herself swaying toward him without meaning to. “Don’t,” she whispered, barely audible. “We can’t do this.” Alexander’s smile deepened, a flicker of amusement in his eyes. “Why not? You came here knowing exactly what I’m capable of. You knew what I wanted the moment you walked into this room.” Seraphina stepped back, trying to create space between them. “I came here for a job, nothing more. I won’t let you manipulate me.” His eyes darkened, and for the first time, she saw a flash of something vulnerable—something human—behind the icy façade he usually wore. But it was gone in an instant, replaced by the calculating, cold gaze that she was becoming all too familiar with. “Manipulate you?” he repeated, his voice low and dangerous. “No, Seraphina. I don’t need to manipulate you. You’re already drawn to me, just like everyone else. The difference is, you won’t admit it.” “I don’t need this,” she said firmly, her hands clenched into fists at her sides. “I don’t need you.” For a moment, the room seemed to freeze, the air thick with tension. Then, without warning, Alexander stepped forward, his hands locking onto her waist as he pulled her against him. The suddenness of it left her breathless, her pulse racing as his lips hovered inches from hers. “You’ll need me more than you think,” he murmured, his voice a seductive whisper that sent a shiver down her spine. “And I’ll make sure you do.” Before Seraphina could protest, he pressed his lips to hers, a kiss that was both soft and demanding. It was nothing like what she had expected, no gentle exploration, but a forceful claiming that left her dizzy and confused. His taste, dark and intoxicating, filled her senses, and for a moment, she almost forgot everything—her resolve, her purpose, the very reason she had come here. But then, just as quickly as it had started, Alexander pulled away. His eyes locked with hers, and for the first time, she saw a flicker of something dark—something more than the control he so carefully maintained. “You belong to me now,” he said, his voice rough. “No matter how much you fight it.” Seraphina’s heart thundered in her chest as she tried to process the weight of his words. She had come here to do a job, to remain detached. But it was clear now: Alexander was not someone she could keep at arm’s length for long. And with that kiss, with that promise, everything had changed.
