Chapter 18
“Home sweet home,” Jake cooed, breaking the silence a short time later. Pulling up to the house, he said, “I’m going to get Evi and Matty.” Jake left the cab of the truck at a jog.
Hunter and Van took a little longer getting out of the truck, and they kept a hold of each other’s hand as they made their way into the kitchen.
“My babies,” Evi wailed as she ran for Van and Hunter, kissing and fussing over their bruises and bumps. “I’m going to heat up our dinner, sit everyone!” Evi waved to chairs and beamed, knowing her family plus two were all together again. She couldn’t have been happier.
“You okay, bro?” Matty came up to Van and hugged him long and hard. “I was so afraid for you,” Matty whispered.
