CASSIUS
Raye trembles in my hands, wet lashes sticking to her cheeks. She's clearly shaken by the fall in the pool, but I can't rip my eyes from the “J” on her blazer.
Something in my guts twist. It isn't the same ‘J’, right?
It can be anyone. It means nothing.
While Raye pulls away from me, I hand her a towel. She yanks it from me, and rushes away from the pool. I keep staring at her until she disappears into the darkness.
A part of me wants to follow her, to comfort her, to know why on earth she's crying. I want to touch her again—but I shove that sick feeling in its place. She's just a girl, she means nothing.
The girls who pushed her into the pool walk away with tails in-between their legs. No one dares to laugh anymore.
Kai mind links me as he slips next to me, his arm bushing mine due to how close we are. “You feel it, too, don't you?”
“Feel what?” I ask.
“Her pain,” he whispers. It's almost like he can really feel it—I feel nothing. Not even a tight squeeze in my chest.
“She can't be the one, right?”He asks again.
“She isn't. Not her. She can't be our mate.” I say, and he walks away without another word.
While I grab a glass of whiskey from a waiter passing by, my eyes catch a glimpse of Beth, the British Alpha's daughter.
What in the world is she doing here? She doesn't even go to Blackthorn.
I turn my face to the side, hoping she'll walk past me by mistake—but she stands in front of me.
Beth sucks in a breath, tucking some loose strands of her hair behind her ears. “Why didn't you come to the date?” She asks softly. Too softly, she makes me feel like I'm causing her pain.
I swing the glass and take a sip, not even sparing her a glance. “I thought my mother told you the reason.”
“She didn't,” she says in her British accent. It does sound attractive to a few men—not to me.
“I had other things to do,” I lie, not wanting to hurt her, but she shakes her head. “You're lying. You skipped our date because you're interested in someone else. That slut that fell into the pool. You want her, right?”
My jaw flexes.
If she isn't a female, her legs will be dangling out of the pool right now.
“I was never interested in you, Beth,” I tell her the truth, savoring the look of shock on her face. “And if perhaps I'm interested in someone, all I want to do is bend the person over, fill her up and make her scream her name while I f**k her raw.”
“You're so unbelievable.” Beth snaps, running away with tears in her eyes.
In my head, my wolf—Kael—growls. “You're lying about Raye. You just don't want to f**k her. You want her scent in your sheets, her blood on your tongue, her pain in your hands.”
“SHUT UP!” I shut him out.
I don't need him telling me crazy things I don't want to try. I'm certainly not interested in Raye. I just find her interesting….because she's different.
Walking away from the pool, I'm surprised to see Ginny and Kai having a conversation.
That b***h.
She doesn't deserve to talk to him when she made him seal himself from the world. She cheated on him with a rival called the Brutalbikes.
Feeling rage bubble within me, I push her aside, far from him, and yell at Kai. “Stop being a weakling, will you?” I snap, “she f*****g cheated on you!”
Kai hits my chest, anger blazing in his eyes. “Back off,” he grits out, “it's none of your business.”
“You're going to push me away because of her?”
“We just need to talk about….us,” he yells. There's so much pain in his eyes—I want to hug him to make him feel better. “I just found out that the rival guy is her mate.”
Mate?
Oh, dammit.
Explains why she was eager to cheat on him.
I tap Kai's shoulder, nodding at him. “We'll find out mate soon, don't worry.” I say, but then his voice stops me.
“What if we don't have the same mate as our father imagined?”
“We're twins,” I turn to face him, “we're bound by blood, of course we'll get the same mate.” I say and walk away.
Heading for the restroom down the hallway to relax a bit, I hear soft sobs coming from the ladies room.
It isn't my intention to peep, but through the cracked door, I see Raye bawling her eyes out, calling herself a murder for killing her father.
She's in so much pain, it hurts to see her—
“Cassius!” Dante yells my name. I groan, meeting Raye's eyes. I run off before she calls me a pervert for peeping at her.
Where's that son of a b***h called Dante?
Stepping out of the hallway to a small clearing, I'm surprised to find various bikers in a line, like they're about to go on a race.
Dante waves at me. “What's a bikers party without an actual race?”
Shit.
A bikers party without an actual race is s**t. However, today, I strangely don't feel like having a race.
Shaking my head, I head towards my perfect bike, grabbing my helmet. “Where's Kai?”
“He said something about screwing Ginny for the last time.”
I laugh. “Now that's my brother.”
Kai’s already over her. He's just a little hurt she has her mate, and it's not him. I'll feel that way, too, if I love someone. But I can't. The emotion ‘love’ is a complete waste of time.
Dante meets my gaze. “Okay, for this race, how about we make a bet?”
