After all the nods to reassure everyone I was okay despite my left side being covered in dried blood, my neck felt like giving up and letting my head fall off. Gabrielle told me not to shift back until she washed the blood out of my fur, and I trusted her judgment about it. I already felt uncomfortable with how the matted blood pulled at my fur as I moved. I sat beside Vicki while she worked through reports and waited for Gabrielle to collect me. I didn’t know where we’d go to wash off the blood, but I couldn’t wait.
