I was a bundle of nerves as I walked with Gabrielle into the city’s administration building, and I didn’t know why. It was just Grandpa and Vicki. It wasn’t like I didn’t know them. Still, the closer we came to our destination, the more my stomach roiled. Gabrielle stopped at the door long enough to knock twice before opening it and gesturing for me to enter first. I stepped up to the doorway and saw my sister leap out of her chair and charge me with her arms wide. It wasn’t quite a flying hug, but it seemed like she tried. After a few moments of Vicki trying to compress my ribs to fit into a soup can, she released me and stepped back, then said, “All right.
