I followed Josh into a path that led deeper into the forest, the scrunch of leaves under our shoes could be heard as we walked, Josh hadn't said anything and I let him be. We come out into a small clearing with a lake.
Josh sat down, he picks a stone and flings it into the water, deep in thought and we were silent for a while.
“Where you ever happy here?”
Josh breaks the silence before me and this question is far from how I imagined the conversation going.
“I.. ” I trail as I think about it. The thought of happiness hadn’t ever been on my radar, it wasn’t something I even thought about.
“I can count how many times you’ve smiled since we became ...” he pauses “..related?”
I sigh at this statement staring straight into the waters.
“Josh, the other day..”
“You weren’t wrong” h
