“Sir” Rosa stutters at the sight between Ava and I. She narrows her eyes at Ava but I keep her facing me so as not to let her be seen.
“Rosa” I call her when she turns on her heels.
“I was just leaving Sir” I sidestep Ava willing her to stay still as I make my way to Rosa. I take the groceries from her hand.
“Oh, I can come back later. I didn’t know you had a guest.”
She looks behind me at a still Ava and then back to me. She gives me a small smile before entering the elevator. I’m not worried about Rosa finding out.
I trust her with my food and that is more trust I’ve ever given anyone. She’s supposed to be retired but after what happened. She decided to cook for me once in a while.
Though I think it's her way of checking on me.
