Chapter Seven: Friendships

2232 Words
“You’re literally falling in love with King Nolan,” Gwen said excitedly. “I can’t believe it’s happening so soon. You’ve only been around for a few weeks and he’s been so busy.” I blushed and got up when I heard a knock at the door. “I’m not in love with him and I’m not falling in love with him. What even gave you that idea?” I opened the door and it was Wayne. “Hey.” They’ve both been asking to hang out with me more, especially Wayne so I thought I’d hang out with both of them at the same time in a little group. “The servants are gossiping about it. They said you two have been extra close lately. King Nolan has even spent less time working to spend time with you.” She explained then looked at Wayne. “Prince Wayne?” I didn’t tell her who was coming, I only told her we’d have another person joining us. “Not really a prince anymore.” He shrugged. “You can just call me Wayne.” then he greeted me with a pat on the head. I looked at Gwen as I shut the door. “Nolan adjusting his work schedule has nothing to do with me.” Not that I knew of, he told me he’d been working too much lately. I think it’s more about his mental health than anything to do with me. “No, it had everything to do with you.” Wayne protested. “He used to be a lot more uptight and work-obsessed but he’s in love so he wants to spend time with his wife. He wants to know you.” I sat down and chuckled nervously. “Did he tell you that?” Wayne shrugged. “Not exactly but I know my brother.” Everyone was telling me how Nolan felt except him. I wasn’t worried about it because Nolan and I are good friends right now. I’m not naive; we are married so it’s not like I don’t expect us to gain some kind of romantic feelings for each other but that takes time. We have good chemistry so it’s easy to talk to Nolan. Sometimes I think we’d never fall in love. We’d just be married, like each other’s company, and have s*x for his sake. I don’t want a loveless marriage but then I remember I’ve never really gotten what I want before so why should now be different? “What’s your type anyways Red?” Gwen asked. I looked up and thought about what she said. “Hm maybe someone nice.” “Nolan’s nice,” Wayne added. I rolled my eyes. “A lot of people are nice. I never thought about my type before but I definitely would want someone nice, caring, and empathetic who has a deep connection with me.” Maybe Nolan could be that person for me. Wayne frowned. “That’s boring as f**k. I want a guy who’s interesting, spontaneous, and fun.” I hoped Wayne would find someone like that. “You two make me glad I’m aromantic.” Gwen chuckled. “I don’t have to worry about all that stuff. I do like to f**k though.” She shrugged. I raised my eyebrow at her. “You’re aromantic but you’re invested in my love life? How does that add up?” I laughed. She scoffed. “I’m allowed to enjoy my friend’s happiness with someone else, aren’t I? I just don’t feel it myself.” She laughed a little with me. “Anyways where are we going?” “I haven’t thought of anywhere.” I got up. “If I’m going anywhere Nolan is going to want to know where so we can stop by and let him know before we go.” Gwen got up and so did Wayne. “Maybe we can just hang out and show you a few new places you haven’t seen around here.” She suggested and I liked the idea. I had two friends now and it was nice, something I’ve always wanted. We walked to Nolan’s office and they waited for me outside of it as I walked in alone. “Hey, Nolan.” Nolan looked up at me with a slight smile. “How are you?” “I’m good. I just wanted to let you know I’m going with Gwen and Wayne into the city to hang out. They’re just going to show me a few places I haven’t seen yet.” I explained. He nodded slowly as I spoke. “Will you be back in time to have dinner with me?” I smiled. “Yeah, I can do that.” I turned around. “Wait Red.” I turned back around. “Yes?” He got up slowly and walked to me. He stared down at me and gave me a hug. I was surprised but wrapped my arms around his body from instinct and pushed my head against his chest. “What’s this for?” I whispered. It felt warm, comforting, and affectionate. Apart of me didn’t ever want to let go. This was what I craved my whole life. “I’m trying to get my scent on you so other demons know you’re mine.” He answered. I frowned and pushed away from him. I crossed my arms and looked annoyed. “Are you okay?” “...Bye Nolan.” I left. “Okay let’s go.” I walked in between Gwen and Wayne. “You okay? You look annoyed so did something happen just now?” Wayne asked. I sighed. “Nolan is just being possessive even though he already announced to the realm that we’re legally married... I think I’m on edge because of our wedding and my coronation. Stefan is coming back soon too and I’m excited for that but I’m afraid I’m not going to be the best motherly figure for him. I didn’t even have my own mother for very long or any figure to take that place for her.” “I heard Stefan already loves you. You’ll be a great step-mom.” Gwen said. We did have a really good time together but I was just having fun with him not trying to raise him, there’s a big difference. Wayne nodded in agreement as we walked out of the castle. “You have a lot on your plate but it’s all going to turn out fine.” “Have you guys had s*x?” Gwen asked. “It’s a good stress reliever.” “Don’t answer that.” Wayne made a face of disgust. “Don’t want to know that about my brother.” I laughed. “Well it’s good there is nothing to know. We haven’t even kissed.” Gwen and Wayne both seemed shocked at that answer but said nothing else. We were about to get into Wayne’s car when someone came up to us. He had a slender build, small ram-like horns, two sets of wings, one on his head and one on his back. His long slim tail had an arrow-like point and he had fangs. “Wayne.” He said and grabbed something out of his pocket. “You left these at my place.” They were wireless earphones. He handed them to Wayne and blushed. Wayne nodded. “Oh, thanks I was wondering what happened to these.” “I was wondering if you wanted to link up again?” He asked nervously. Wayne shrugged. “I don’t really think I have the time, sorry.” He got into the car and the guy left sadly. I got into the passenger seat and Gwen got into the back. “What was that about?” Wayne started the car. “He’s a cute guy, we hooked up twice but I’m not interested in something serious with an incubus. The s*x is great but draining and If I don’t want it to go anywhere serious I’d rather not see him at all.” It seemed mature of Wayne but it was still sad for the other guy. “s*x with an Incubus is amazing.” Gwen moaned playfully. “And with succubus too!” She moaned again louder and we laughed. “Stop.” I laughed. “So are there any real differences between the type of demons you are and Incubus?” I wanted to learn all I could about demons. Wayne shook his head. “Not really, they just have more s*x drive because that’s how they get most of their energy. But that’s the only difference. I just don’t think I’d be the best monogamous partner for an incubus. It would scare me to be their only source of major energy.” That made sense; I know I wouldn't want to be in that kind of relationship for the same reason. “I’ve been in a monogamous relationship with an incubus before.” Gwen contributed to the conversation. “When I was seventeen I still knew I was aro but I was asked out by this incubus that really liked me and I felt kinda bad for him and pressured by my friends to be with him. They said I could fall in love I just hadn’t met the right guy yet or I hadn’t experienced a relationship yet so I couldn’t know.” So even in the demon realm society pushed norms on those differences. “Which was bullshit but I kinda wanted to feel normal and it was nice to be attached to someone. The thing is at the end of the day I didn’t feel anything romantic for him and he wanted more.” She exhaled. “But as for being his only source of energy.” She rolled her eyes back thinking about it. “That was amazing. We had s*x all the time. s*x feels so much better when the other person really needs it. I wasn’t super busy either so he was never starving you know.” I covered my ears for about the end half of that. I guess I wasn’t really one hundred percent comfortable with s*x yet. Wayne laughed. “See I’m super busy so they’d just be constantly on the urge of death. Completely exhausted.” He joked and parked. We all got out and started walking around for a while. “Excuse me!” The voice of a little girl was heard. I turned around to see a little demon girl. “...Yes?” I awkwardly acknowledged her. “Look Mom see!” She pointed at me. “That’s the new Queen!” I was flustered and wasn’t sure what to do but just stand there. She was about to walk up closer to me but her mom grabbed her. “Sorry about that, your majesty.” She smiled slightly. She left with her daughter and I hear her daughter say, “She was so pretty but where are her horns or wings?” I patted my head. “I guess she didn’t realize I’m human…” She was young and if she knew I was different from her maybe she wouldn’t have been so excited to see me. Wayne shrugged. “That wouldn’t make much of a difference to kids, they don’t know about the history between humans and demons, and when she does she’ll already know you’re a good one.” I hoped he was right. We went to a restaurant and ate then they were about to start showing me around again but I remembered something. “Hold on I left something inside.” I ran across the street at the crosswalk but I was stopped as soon as I was about to go inside. “Look it’s the soon-to-be Queen.” A demon man said who was blocking the door. He looked really intimidating because of the facial expression he gave as if he wanted to cause me trouble. There were two men on the sides of me but they looked different, they were hunched over a bit and their entire eyeballs were black. “We should welcome her to the demon realm.” I took a couple of steps behind me and saw Wayne and Gwen. Wayne put his hand on my shoulder. “You sure you want to do that?” He asked the man blocking the door. “I’d hate to tell my brother, the King that you’re bothering his wife.” He threatened. Then Gwen took a photo of the men. The man in front of the door looked annoyed. “Whatever.” He left with the other two. My heart was racing. I went inside and grabbed my bag. “Can I go home…?” I asked with my hands shaking. Wayne nodded. “Of course. Come on.” We all walked to the car. “The two with him were low-class demons.” I got in the car and felt like crying but I didn’t, I held them back. “Don’t tell Nolan what happened… please.” I was afraid he’d make it a bigger deal than it was. I didn’t want restrictions, I just wanted to be able to protect myself. It’s not like I wasn’t safe with Wayne and Gwen. They were able to keep me safe.
