SKY
I still could not believe this was happening, me on a cruise.
Standing on a private yacht with the sea stretching endlessly ahead, the sun reflected off the water like scattered diamonds.
This was the kind of thing I used to watch in movies and scroll past on social media, telling myself that people like me did not live lives like this and yet here I was but the wrong man. I hated that part the most.
The fact that my heart was trying to react before my head could catch up, I am pretty sure he had read my diary but since he refused to admit to it I didn't want to push it so he doesn't get suspicious that I love this place even though I do.
I refused to show emotion or see how amazed I was, I leaned against the railing, eyes fixed on the horizon, pretending the sea was the only thing holding my attention.
“Let's go eat..” he repeated, but I wasn't in the mood right now. Yeah, it's my first time on a cruise. I needed to enjoy every moment of the beauty of the sea. Even though I feel sick I was very sure he would take care of me.
I was still lost staring at the sea when I felt a hand wrapped around my waist from behind. My body reacted before my mind could stop it, a small shiver running through me.
“Let’s eat,” he said calmly, his voice close to my ear. I turned my head slightly, confused.
I expected him to ask for more, but since yesterday he hadn't done so, instead acting like a gentleman.
All William had ever wanted from me since the day we met was s*x. Yet here he was, offering food instead of demands, It made me wonder if he had finally gone insane.
Before I could respond, my phone vibrated in my hand. I frowned and opened it, instantly my heart sank.
A new post was released barely minutes ago. Levi Grant and Camille Gilbert in one frame.
The picture loaded slowly, each second stretching painfully longer than the last.
When it finally appeared, my breath caught, they were standing close.
Camille was pressed against Levi’s chest, her hand splayed across his suit jacket.
Levi’s arm was wrapped firmly around her waist, pulling her in, his head tilted toward hers as if he were about to whisper something private.
Their faces were inches apart, eyes locked, lips curved in matching smiles that felt far too intimate for “just a shoot.”
I stared at the picture over and over again, as if it might change if I looked long enough but it didn’t.
Instead, it kept getting worse as I scrolled to the next picture.
This wasn’t even the first time Levi had taken pictures like this. Every time I complained, he brushed it off, told me I was overthinking, that modeling required chemistry, and that I should trust him.
But something about this felt different. Camille wasn’t just a model, she was his past and that made me have some unsettling feelings.
I scrolled down to the comments, my chest tightening with every word.
“Wow, his first love is back.”
“They look so good together.”
“How does his fiancée feel about this?”
“Perfect couple energy.”
My lips trembled, and before I could stop myself, I bit down hard on them.
A tear slipped free anyway, and I quickly wiped it away, angry at myself.
Who was I to feel jealous when I was here with another man? On a yacht. Far away from my supposed fiancé.
The hypocrisy made my stomach twist and just then I felt William’s chin rest lightly on my shoulder.
“Are you mad,” he asked quietly, “that both of them are in that position? Are you jealous?” I stiffened at that question then another tear escaped before I could stop it.
I wiped my face again, forcing my voice steady. “I have no right to be jealous when I am here with you instead of my man.”
I felt how he froze. Slowly, he let go of my waist and stepped back, turning me around to face him. His eyes were darker now, jaw tight.
“So you’re telling me,” he let out sharply, “that you have been thinking about him this whole time while being here with me?”
I scoffed, anger flaring up like it always did when he cornered me emotionally. “Yeah…. Any problem with that? After all, you are not my…”
He pulled me closer in one swift movement, his face inches from mine.
“You dare not complete that word,” he warned, his voice low.
My world stalled at that moment. Standing this close to him made everything harder to ignore. He is someone handsome who could get any lady he wanted but why is he hung up on me?
If he wanted to annoy Levi he could just have s*x with me and then make a joke out of it, why bring me on expensive dates?
I shoved him away, harder than necessary, my glare sharp with frustration.
“You forced me here,” I snapped. “Do you really think I would have come if I knew you were bringing me out like this? You dragged me into a date with William, please.”
The name slipped out before I could stop it. For a second, something in his eyes softened. Just a second. Then it hardened again.
“Let’s eat,” he said shortly, turning away as if the moment had never existed.
I let out a deep sigh and right on cue, my stomach betrayed me with a loud growl.
“Traitor.”
I mumbled as I followed him, my steps slow, my thoughts messy. That image of him, that closeness, kept replaying in my mind, and through it all, one thing hurt the most.
Levi had not called for once since morning.
I pulled out my phone, fingers hovering over the screen. He had my live location so he should have known I was not home. He should have called and instantly anger drowned out the reason.
I dialed his contact before I could control myself, he didn't lock the first and second but on the third try, someone finally picked up.
“Hello?” It was not his voice.
My lips curved into a bitter smile. Even his phone was with Camille.
“Where is Levi?” I asked, my voice cold.
There was a pause. “Uh… sorry, who is speaking?”
I went completely still. I expected Levi to save my number with an endearing name.
“Sky,” I said quietly.
“Oh… you’re the one,” Camille replied lightly. “He didn’t save your name as that but…” she paused, then added, “Sorry…. No hard feelings. He just asked me to hold his phone while he signed some documents.” and I hung up without another word.
