SKY
“You look beautiful.” His voice lingered behind me, low and so irritating to my ears right now.
He had decided to bring me to one of his private suites so he could get me a new dress and touch up my makeup.
I stared at my reflection in the mirror for a second longer, my fingers tightening around the edge of the dressing table.
Then I stood up, pushing the chair back with my leg, and walked straight toward the door without answering him.
I heard movement behind me and stopped, turning.
“Do you want to ruin this one again?” I asked calmly.
He halted immediately, shoulders stiffening as if he had hit an invisible wall.
“I am sorry,” he said quickly. “I lost control, so it won’t happen again. I promise just forgive me, this once.”
I crossed my arms staring back at him. “So?”
He hesitated, with his eyes flickering. “So… you are not following the contract.”
I let out a short, disbelieving laugh. “I told you already. I love Levi, sleeping with you doesn’t mean I am going to love you or like you. You are not entitled to anything beyond what we agreed on.” His jaw tightened.
“You are a playboy,” I continued evenly. “That’s all you are, there are five nights left and that's it. I’m not like the women you are used to.” He exhaled slowly. “That’s why I apologized.”
I turned fully to face him. “Then you should tell me what I am supposed to say to my fiancé when I walk into his parents’ house late and embarrassed. He’s been calling me the entire drive, and I couldn’t answer because of you.”
His lips parted, but no words came.
“You shouldn’t have even picked me up,” I said. “If you respected my rules, you wouldn’t have. You never listen to what I want, all you do is think with your third leg.”
He stepped toward me instinctively but I lifted my hand making him stop.
“Give me one of your car keys,” I said. “I will drive myself.”
“But…”
“Give it to me,” I repeated. “And make sure there’s no trace linking this to you.”
“Sky…”
“Now.” I let out and he sighed, I watched him type on his phone and in not less than a minute someone knocked on the door.
I opened the door before he could say anything else and slammed it shut behind me as I came face to face with a man in black.
“I was…” I snatched the key from his hands and walked straight to the garage, pressing the button a car beeped and I found my way there.
Well, I have lived in several suites when traveling around for coaching so it wasn't hard to navigate my way around here.
The moment I got to Levi’s parents’ house I met Levi pacing in the driveway when I arrived, his phone pressed tightly to his ear.
The moment he saw me step out of the car, he ended the call and turned sharply.
His eyes went straight to the vehicle and had that shocking look on.
“Where did you get this car?” he asked. My throat tightened at once
I walked toward him and reached for his hand. “I am sorry… I needed to get to you as fast so I rented it. I will return it tommorow.”
He studied my face for a second, then smirked faintly.
“And where were you coming from?” he asked. “Why didn’t you answer my calls? Ashley said you left hours ago.”
I slipped my arm through his, trying to soften him. “Please don’t be mad now, your parents are waiting for us. Let’s talk about this alone.”
He pulled his arm free.
“Alone?” His voice rose. “You have been acting strange for days. I ask you to meet my parents and this is what you do? Are you suddenly too important now?”
The words hit harder than I expected.
“I am sorry,” I said quietly. “I got mixed up. I thought you sent a chauffeur. I didn’t realize it until later.”
The anger in his eyes flickered, uncertainty replacing it for just a moment.
“Then you should have answered my calls.”
“I was upset,” I admitted. “My night was already ruined, and I turned my phone off.” I paused, my chest tightening as I recalled my phone.
“Damn…I forgot my purse in the car.” I whispered in shock.
He sighed deeply, rubbing his temple. “Fine, I will help you get it.”
“No.” The word came out too fast before I could control myself.
I couldn’t risk him trying to track it. I didn’t trust what William might do if he saw Levi.
“I will get it myself.”
Levi studied me for a long second, then pulled me closer, his hand resting at my waist.
“I am still mad,” he said quietly. “But we will deal with this later. For now… let’s go inside.” I forced a small smile and nodded.
Together, we walked toward the house, the lights warm and welcoming, even as my chest stayed tight with everything I wasn’t saying.
The warmth of the house did nothing to ease the tightness in my chest.
Levi’s hand rested lightly at the small of my back as we stepped inside, guiding me forward. The living room smelled faintly of expensive perfume.
Everything looked curated, untouched, like no one ever truly relaxed here, until his mother appeared.
She was elegant in a way that felt effortless. Pearls at her neck, posture straight, eyes assessing. When she saw me, her lips curved into a smile but never quite reached her eyes.
“Welcome Sky… it's been a while guess you now have a lot of jobs and forgot to visit me.” she said, making me swallow hard.
I have only met her once ever since I became Levi’s fiancée, our first encounter didn't go that smoothly either.
Her gaze traveled slowly from my hair to my shoes. I forced a smile and inclined my head slightly. “It’s very nice to finally meet you, ma’am.”
She nodded, distant. “Hmm.”
A quiet pause followed, stretching long enough for discomfort to settle in. I became painfully aware of my empty hands.
Damn it again… I didn’t bring anything.
realization hit me like a stone to the chest. I had planned to get it on my way here but that jerk.
Levi’s mother turned toward the dining area without another word. “Dinner will be served shortly.”
Levi glanced at me and squeezed my hand, as if he sensed the shift. “Mom, can we sit first?”
She waved her hand dismissively. “If you must.” We moved toward the table. Levi pulled out a chair for me, his movements careful, like he was trying to keep everything from cracking.
I was about to settle until I heard a voice that weirdly didn't sit right with me.
“Having dinner without me?” I turned to that voice and I felt everywhere silent at once in my head.
