SKY “More drinks!” I barked, startling the bartender into dropping the next shot in front of me. My fingers trembled as I grabbed it, tipping the glass back in one long swallow. The alcohol burned, and for a second, I could almost forget. Ashley leaned close, shouting over the music. Her hands flailed wildly, pulling at my arms, her eyes bright with concern. I shoved her hands away and pressed them against my lips, shaking my head violently. “Don’t even try!” My voice cracked over the thumping bass, with frustration. She froze for a heartbeat, then reached again. I snatched the next shot before she could speak, the burn climbing my throat and straight into my chest. “I hate my life!” I roared, tears slipping freely down my cheeks, mixing with the sweat and glow of the club lights.
