22. The Clumsy Ancient Counterattack

Yulia's pride wouldn't allow her to concede. She decided to use ancient noble etiquette for her counterattack.

Counterattack 1: The Return Gift

Yulia activated a family transit array, summoning a "Night Steed" from the ancient castle. The horse was massive and fierce but unaccustomed to modern asphalt. She commanded Lu Chen: "Servant! Ride this warhorse to your 'Human Ritual'! This is a noble's proper mode of transport!"

The result: Lu Chen riding the steed caused a massive traffic jam on the Imperial City highway, incurring a hefty fine (handled by his assistant, of course), and becoming the night's biggest "social news story."

Counterattack 2: The Exorcism Robe

Yulia stayed up all night sewing an "Exorcism Robe against the Rival"—a dark red cloak embroidered with ancient runic patterns. She forced Lu Chen to wear it to the gala, claiming it would "repel low-level spirits approaching him."

Lu Chen found it absurd, but seeing the anxiety and love in Yulia's eyes, he conceded. He draped the cloak over his suit, instantly becoming the "most unconventional yet mysterious" figure of the year at the gala.

23. The Family Spy's Comedic Threat

Just as Yulia was busy "counterattacking her rival," the family's rigid spy finally tracked her scent.

The spy attempted to use the ancient Fog Mist technique to conceal his approach in the darkness.

However, the city's air pollution, car exhaust, skyscraper reflections, and high-voltage power lines completely disrupted the spy's mist technique. He was disoriented by the traffic lights, wandering the road like a drunkard.

Lu Chen's intelligent security system sounded an alarm: "Suspicious individual detected; behavior highly consistent with that of a vagrant."

The security system mistook the ancient vampire spy for "suspicious package," automatically called the police, and directed him toward a passing sanitation truck.

Yulia and Lu Chen in the basement only heard the distant roar of a car, assuming the crisis had passed.
