{Evander’s POV}
Crazy.. he wants to be sure he isn’t crazy? He brought a human soul into a demon’s castle.. he knows that though the two of us aren’t like our elder brothers, they would surely devour her soul if given the chance. “You’re most certainly crazy!” I shot back at him, both of us turned towards the bed, making our way to her side. I looked down at her, scrawny, sickly little thing, coated in blood, and what looked to be wax. I sat down beside her, reaching out with my hand and gripping her chin, forcing her eyes to meet mine. “What could possibly..” I began, but as soon as our skin made contact I felt it.. the spark.. our eyes met and everything suddenly made sense. Why she was here, why my brother brought her to us. I pulled away, standing from my place beside her. “Y-You’re kidding.. what happened to cause her soul to become so frail?” I asked, looking over to Zorin.
“She was murdered..” Those words struck like lightning through my core. Someone murdered her.. she had been brutalized.. someone touched what was mine. “And when she found herself there.. she reached back into her body and wrote out the name of her killer..” Zorin answered. She did that? She was strong enough to do that, but now her soul was severely damaged. I was unsure of how she even survived such a thing. I looked over to where she laid, seeing her eyes go wide as she pulled her hands through the knotted up mess of hair.
She stood quickly, her legs shaking as she took off, rushing into the bathroom in Zorin’s room. Her voice came out soft, and broken. “No..” she cried as she backed up, her spine hitting a wall. She tensed, jumping up as if it physically hurt her. “Look what he did to me..” she whimpered, tears beginning to slip from her pale green eyes. Her eyes squinted as she stepped closer to the mirror, her eyes scanning over her reflection. “I’ll kill him! I’m gonna fu***** kill him!” She cried, slamming her fists down on the sink.Her eyes begun to glow, as we watched her, she reached out to touch the mirror, but her legs buckled as she fell back onto the ground. When her head bounced off the tile floor my breath seized in my throat.
I walked over to her, lifting her in my arms. When her small body nestled against my chest I let out a sigh. “We need to get her cleaned up..” I said softly. “Call for Flora, Melody, and Arina.. they should be able to clean her properly.” I laid her back on the bed and brushed a few loose strands from her face. “We’ll have to tell the others.. you know that.. the only one of us that could even possibly heal her soul from the necrotic damage that’s been done to it is Lucien.. it’ll take some convincing.. but we should be able to get him to see reason.. she’s..” I began, but Zorin cut me off.
“Don’t say it!” He shouted, sounding sad.. not angry. “If you say it out loud.. then it becomes a reality.. and it’s one that I’m not ready to deal with right now.” He sighed, turning and beginning to walk out of the room. “You should take her to your wing.. you’ll take better care of her than I would..” he said. Zeldryx looked crushed floating behind him, as though he wanted to object, but he knows as well as I do, there’s no arguing with Zorin when he gets this way.
“Fine.. I’ll take her with me then.” I replied, scooping her up once again. She let out soft hums as she slept against me. I held her bridal style, allowing her head to lie in the crook of my neck. “But don’t complain later when she’s angry with you, and I’m sure she will be.” I said, walking past him, back out into the hallway. Evryn floating beside me, soon he looked down at the sleeping girl in my arms and studied her.
He flew to her face, watching the way it scrunched in her sleep before a soft whimper left her lips. “She’s having a nightmare..” he whined, before crawling onto her shoulder, and nuzzling up to her.
He felt it too, which only solidified it.. the pull.. the draw.. the bond, snapping into place. This small, frail, broken human soul, was our soulmate.. something that beings like us were destined to live without. Evil creatures, living here within the pits of the hells.. we didn’t deserve her, and yet my brother has brought her to us. If she’s bonded to me, and to Zorin.. then she is probably bonded to the others. They’re the ones I’m worried about.. they may hurt her.. and I can’t let that happen. I have to protect her, I have to keep her safe, even from my own brothers. As we made it to my wing, I opened my door, closing and locking it behind me. I stepped into my living room, and looked around, I laid her on the couch and walked to the kitchen, reaching for my phone. I quickly made a call, and within minutes there were knocks on my door.
When I opened it my three sisters stood in the doorway, staring up at me with anticipation. “Okay.. we’re here, what’s so important?” Arina asked, looking past me to see the girl asleep on the couch. “A human soul.. here? Are you crazy Zander?” She sighed, pushing past me, Melody, and Flora filing in behind her.
“I need your help.. she needs cleaned up.. she’s hurt, her soul is deteriorated.. I need the three of you to just help me out on this one thing.. please.” I asked them, looking to the three of them.
Arina walked over to the couch, sitting down beside her, brushing her hair back slightly. “What’s her name?” She asked, something simple, but something that regrettably I still didn’t know.
I shook my head. “I don’t know, but it’s on my list of questions.” I answered honestly, “Just please, help me.”
