[Trigger warning, this book contains themes of murder, assault, knifes, ritual sacrifice, and demons. Reader discretion is advised!] {Amara’s POV} Leaving my ex Kade nearly killed me.. well, he nearly killed me when I told him to leave. Looking at myself in the mirror had my heart in my throat, my eyes wandered across the pale skin, littered with bruises. I let this happen.. his abuse had gotten worse over the past few months, he’d been so sweet when we met. That’s probably why I was so quick to forgive his temper. Then of course, the strange behavior began, he started slowly, buying books, and reading into the occult. He quickly became obsessed with demons, looking into rituals to summon them. When I found the shrine hidden in the back of my closet that’s when I knew it was time. With his abuse worsening and him looking into these things, I knew that it was only going to end one way for me. I threw him out, and the glare he gave me in return was enough to chill me to my very core. I’d been trying to put my relationship with him behind me, but it seemed that no matter how hard I attempted to move on, it just wasn’t in the cards. Then came today.. this morning when I woke up, I could feel it, something felt off.. it felt different. I woke up late, which never happens, I’ve always been an early riser. While I enjoyed the extra sleep, I woke with this gnawing pit in my stomach. Nausea set in not long after I sat up, but I shook it off, and quickly got up, rushing to the bathroom to begin getting ready for work. I hopped in the shower, washing up, before getting out and drying my hair. I allowed it to fall in my natural waves, then pulled the top part back, securing it with a white ribbon. I did a light pink eyeshadow look, before rushing to my closet and grabbing my white sundress. It was lace, with an A-line skirt, and spaghetti straps. I slipped on my white sandals, and rushed for the front door. Instead of leaving, I was pushed backwards into my house, falling onto the floor. As I looked up, I could see Kade leaning in my doorway, with a smile that felt too wide, spread across his face. “Kade? W-What are you doing here? I’m late for work, get out of my way!” I demanded as I stood, brushing myself off. He sauntered inside, as if he still lived here closing the door behind him. “Shhhh.. you’re being too loud.. I have something for you.. a gift, a parting gift, and I wanted to give it to you now to show that there were no hard feelings.” He said, that devilish grin growing even wider, I shook my head, pointing to the door. “No Kade.. I told you not to come back here.. leave now, or I’m calling the cops!” I replied coldly, pulling my cellphone out and dialing 911. I turned it to show him, and that’s when he snapped. He rushed me, slapping my phone out of my hand. My heart sank as it hit the floor, and he shoved me backwards. I turned quickly, running around the kitchen table, and making a break for my room when something hit me over the back of the head, knocking me forward into the wall. I regained my balance, my vision blurring, as I turned to face him, I held out my hands, trying to keep him from coming any closer. “Wait, Kade, please, you don’t have to do this!” I cried out, backing myself into the corner. “I know..” his smile made my stomach turn over on itself as he stalked towards me. “But I really want to!” He chuckled, lunging at me. His hands wrapped around my throat, as my head bounced off the wall. I could feel the life slipping away from me, and on instinct I kneed him hard between the legs. He dropped to the floor, as I gasped for air and turned to try to make it to my room. Then I felt it, a sharp, cold pain in my back. The feeling of something tugging out, then warmth spreading. I flipped around to look at him, seeing a knife, covered in blood in his hands. I saw him pulling it back, as my vision blurred. “Kade wait!” I cried, before feeling the same pain again in my chest this time. His hand covered my mouth, as a sick grin spread across his face. “Soon.. all my planning.. all my research, it’ll finally be worth it! Thank you, for giving me one final gift in our relationship!” He smirked. My vision began to fade as I dropped to the ground, blood pouring out of me, and coating my floor. I could feel my warmth leaving my body, as blood began to rise in my throat. This can’t be how it ends.. it can’t be.
