Chapter 4

1080 Words
I got up immediately and began to pack my stuff with shaky hands. " You're leaving?" He asked. "Yes! I'm leaving." " Are you done with all your questions" "No, and I won't ask anymore." To hell with this f*****g interview and to hell with you, Sir. Lose my name. " Okay," he replied impassively. I immediately left that deadly room. **** That night I told Madeline all that happened. " Well, that's creepy," she stated with a frown. " I know. But I gotta admit he is handsome." I said, taking a bite of my pastry. " But too bad you couldn't ask him all the 15 questions the professor told you to ask him. How many did you ask him?" " I don't even know; I think five or less. Man, I don't remember." " Oh dear, that means you must go back and complete the questions. I looked at her like she was crazy. " The f**k is wrong with you, guy? Do I look like I hate my life?" " Adriana, you have to." " To hell with those questions." " And to hell with your diploma." She hit the sensitive spot. " Hmm, I hate the fact that you are right. " Good, you wouldn't wanna risk your future," I said. " Oh no, after all the nasty things I said to that murderer, I have to return?". " Adriana, just go there, be straight to the point. Ask him all the questions on the list and nothing else. Plus, you will be surrounded by security. Once through, pack your stuff and leave. Don't answer or react to his moves," she said. " You're right; I have no choice but to go back." I was not happy I was going back; I felt sick inside. I had to get over this murderer one way or the other. **** With the bit of courage I had left, I returned to Riker's Island. I was taken back to that room where I sat patiently waiting for Cillian. I nervously prepared myself and promised not to show any emotions, especially fear. I tried to look as confident as possible. After 10 mins, he was brought in still in chains, he sat across me, and we were soon left alone. "Good morning, Mr. Cillian." I faked a severe tone. He was silent for a while but then spoke. "Didn't expect you to be back so early," he said. I'm on an assignment; shall I begin from where I stopped ?" I didn't get a reply, so I took that as a yes. He always had a cold, empty expression. " Can you estimate the number of all the people you have killed or murdered in any way? "I've bombed a lot of areas and killed a lot of people with my hands. That's too many to estimate." I swallowed and nodded. " Rumors say you're um- a racist. Is that true?" I asked, my body began to shiver, but I did my best to hide it. " If I was a racist, don't you think you would be dead by now?" He said. 'oh lord' I coughed and cleared my throat. I asked him all the questions on the list until I was done. " Are you done?" He asked. " Yes, finally," I admitted proudly. "Okay, it's my turn to ask you questions now." He said, sitting up. I looked at him like I had seen a ghost. " Y- y what?" "Turn, To ask questions." I stopped breathing again. " I won't take no for an answer." His sentence came out like a threat, and I knew better not to annoy him further. Such people have allies everywhere. If I said no, I could get shot in the head immediately after I left his sight. " But- " You didn't ask about the years I'm to spend here. Why?" I gulped " Uh- it wasn't on my list. Besides, it's unnecessary." "Ask." His voice came out with a low rage. " Uh- how many years were you sentenced to," I asked. " I was sentenced to death; my country permitted your country to sentence me to death." ' Huh?' Why did he tell me to ask about the number of years? " Do you believe I will stay here forever?" Was his next intriguing question. " I don't know." " I'll escape from here," he said casually, playing with the chains. I felt a funny feeling in my tummy, and my eyes prickled. I could hardly breathe. " Why are you telling me this?" I asked, afraid. " I have a lot of contacts, you know." " It's none of my business," I retorted. I wanted to stand, but there was some force holding me down. " Well, now it is; if you repeat this to anyone, you will die." I could feel my heartbeat. " But I didn't ask you to tell me anything!" I stood up, furious. " This is what you will do for me; today is Tuesday; visit me for the rest of the week until Friday. You are graduating Saturday so I will spare you that day. " What?! Why? No!" I grabbed my bag and got up to leave. " Don't go anywhere; I know everything about you; I know your friends and where you live." He threatened. " Is that supposed to be a threat?" " I don't make threats Adriana Morgan." I was shocked to my bones that he knew my name. " What exactly do you know," I asked. " Your room number is A016: your best friend and roommate, Madeline Smith. Your parents in Chicago are both business people. Your boyfriend is also in your school." My legs seemed to weaken. Terrified, my bags dropped to the floor, and my eyes began to water. "H- how do you know so much about me," I asked amidst tears. "Like I said, contacts. Just do what I said and decide if I will leave you and your family alone." " Oh, my god..." My body was shivering. "Why me?" " See you tomorrow." I stared, my whole body trembling with fear. How does he know everything about me; how?! Why? " Please, I beg you leave me alone after Friday. He stared at me blankly. I waited for a reply and got none. With shaky hands, I picked up my bag and left the place as fast as possible.
