The darkness grew thicker as the creatures drew closer. They were no ordinary wolves; their bodies were larger and stronger, and their eyes glowed a fiery red. Their power felt like the wind rushing past, creating waves of energy that Lyra could almost feel throughout her body. She stood tall beside Aldric, who was now in his wolf form, a stronger, more imposing version. Yet, despite being so well-trained, Lyra could see that Aldric seemed slightly overwhelmed by the number of creatures approaching.
Aldric barked loudly, signaling for Lyra to step back a little. “Don’t get too close!” he shouted in human language, though his voice sounded more profound and more like a wolf’s growl.
Lyra didn’t move. There was an undeniable feeling inside her that made her feel closer to Aldric than ever before. She could sense the tension between them, a bond growing stronger as the threat neared. She couldn’t let Aldric fight alone, even though, deep inside, she knew she wasn’t a warrior.
But at that moment, as her blood coursed through her veins, there was a powerful urge she couldn’t explain. A force awakened within her. A hidden strength, emerging without her wanting it. Lyra felt her blood boil like something ancient and powerful was merging with her. Without realizing it, her hand reached for the sword hanging at Aldric’s side, a sword she hadn’t even noticed before.
“What are you doing?” Aldric yelled, but the howls of the approaching creatures swallowed his voice.
Lyra gripped the sword tightly, though it felt awkward in her hands. However, as she lifted it, something within her shifted. Her body felt more substantial and more connected to the surrounding environment. Once heavy and unfamiliar, the sword now felt like an extension of herself. Without thinking further, she stepped forward, standing beside Aldric.
“I will fight with you,” Lyra said, her voice firmer than she felt.
She saw the surprise on Aldric’s face but didn’t allow him to protest. Aldric looked at her with concern but said nothing. He knew Lyra had made up her mind. And although his heart was still worried, he knew he couldn’t stop her determination.
In an instant, the creatures charged at them. Aldric leaped first, lunging at the large wolf charging at them with incredible speed. Its sharp teeth snapped, but Aldric dodged nimbly, biting the creature’s neck and throwing it to the ground.
However, soon, more wolves emerged from the darkness, more than Aldric had anticipated. They surrounded them, cutting off any retreat, and the situation grew dire.
Lyra tightened her grip on the sword, feeling the power surging within her. A faint memory began to resurface in her mind. She had heard of the Lunerra clan’s power, which could control creatures and even fight against them. She raised her sword without realizing it, focusing the energy within her.
A rumbling sound echoed within her, and suddenly, a brilliant blue light surrounded the sword. The light shot into the air, creating a wave of energy so strong that it felt like the universe was flowing through Lyra. Her shout escaped her, and the wave instantly struck the creatures surrounding them. The wolves were thrown back, some falling to the ground, while others retreated, pushed by an unseen force.
Aldric stood stunned, unable to speak. He watched Lyra, who now appeared more muscular and confident than ever. The blue light gradually faded, leaving Lyra standing with the sword still raised high, her breath heavy.
“What did you do?” Aldric finally asked, his voice hoarse.
“I don’t know,” Lyra panted, “But I can feel it. I can feel it in my blood.”
Before Aldric could respond, several larger wolves charged again, this time more boldly. But Lyra no longer felt afraid. The power was inside her, guiding her to move faster, with more precision. She leaped forward, using the sword to strike one of the larger wolves, creating a deep wound in its body. The wolf screamed in pain before collapsing, lifeless.
Aldric stared in shock, his eyes wide, as he watched Lyra fight with speed that seemed almost on par with his own. When Lyra looked at him, something different was in her gaze, a pure energy flowing through her without her control. Instantly, they became a perfect team, moving together and destroying the creatures that came at them.
Yet, despite their success, the number of wolves didn’t diminish. Aldric felt his body growing tired, and when he turned, he saw more wolves approaching from all directions. Their time was running out.
“Aldric!” Lyra shouted when she saw Aldric cornered by two large wolves.
“I can’t let you—”
Aldric leaped to face the wolves, but one managed to bite his arm, sending him crashing to the ground. Pain gripped his body, and he felt blood flowing from his wound.
Lyra felt as though the world was spinning. She couldn’t let Aldric get hurt. Without thinking, she ran toward him, gripping the sword tightly. She struck with one more substantial swing than before, creating a wave of energy even more significant than the last. The wave split the air, destroying the wolves around them.
But at that moment, a massive wolf appeared from the darkness. Its body was more extensive and substantial, with longer fangs, and its eyes glowed red with fury. Lyra felt the threat, and for the first time, she felt fear. She didn’t know if the power inside her was enough to face it.
But she had no choice. Aldric lay shaken on the ground, blood spilling from wounds. Lyra gripped her sword, stepping forward with greater resolve. She knew she had to protect Aldric and defeat this creature, no matter what.
But before she could act, her body began to weaken. All the energy she had felt earlier drained away, and she nearly collapsed. At that moment, Aldric rose from the ground, injured but full of determination.
“I will protect you, Lyra,” he whispered, shifting back into his wolf form. “We’ll face this together.”
With those words, they reunited, ready to fight until the end.
