Her eyes widened in disbelief the moment she saw me. “Jessica… what are you doing here?”
The voice was faint, trembling, but it was hers. My throat tightened. “Mother.”
I rushed forward, but the glowing chains around her sparked when I reached out. The sting was instant and sharp, running through my hand like fire. I hissed and pulled back.
“You can’t touch it,” she said weakly. “It’s bound by a curse.”
“You mean his curse?” I asked. I watched her expression, surprised.
“You know? How did you get here?”
