CHAPTER 6: Mixed Signals

452 Words
Philip's POV: I couldn't stop thinking about Chris. There was something about him that drew me in, something that made me want to get to know him better. But at the same time, I knew I had to be careful. I couldn't risk revealing my true identity and getting caught up in the world of fame and celebrity. As I walked to my next class, lost in thought, I heard my phone beep. It was my manager, reminding me of a brand photo shoot that I had to attend in a few hours. I sighed, feeling the weight of my double life pulling at me. It wasn't easy juggling my celebrity work and university studies, but I had no choice. I couldn't put my dreams on hold, and I couldn't let anyone know who I really was. I glanced up and saw Chris walking towards me. He looked excited, like he had something important to share. "Hey, Philip," he said. "I was hoping to catch you before class." I felt my heart skip a beat. "Hey, Chris. What's up?" "I wanted to see if you wanted to come to our next jam session," he said, gesturing to a flyer in his hand. "It's just a bunch of us music students getting together to play some music. I think you'd fit right in." I hesitated for a moment. Part of me wanted to say yes, to spend more time with Chris and the other music students. But another part of me was scared, scared of getting too close and revealing my true identity. "Um, I don't know," I said, trying to sound noncommittal. "I'm pretty busy with schoolwork right now." Chris looked disappointed, but he didn't push it. "No worries," he said, stuffing the flyer back into his backpack. "Maybe some other time." As he walked away, I couldn't help but feel a pang of regret. Maybe I was being too cautious, too closed off. Maybe it was time to take a chance and let someone in. But then again, what if he found out? What if he knew who I really was? I couldn't risk it. Not yet, at least. I looked down at my phone and saw that I had to leave soon for a brand photo shoot. As I made my way towards the exit, I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror. My Filipino features stared back at me, a reminder of where I came from and who I was. I couldn't help but feel conflicted. I wanted to pursue my dreams, but I didn't want to lose sight of who I was and where I came from. And most of all, I didn't want to lose Chris.
