Lila’s POV
“What did he take me for?” I asked rhetorically after narrating my encounter with the arrogant scar faced man that called himself Ryder to Talia . “Do I look like his maid or something he could just ordered around?”
“If he seriously wanted a chef that would prepare dinner meals for his friends, why would he come to you?” Talia queried thoughtfully. I guessed many thoughts were floating about inside her head.
“What if he has sinister motive?” Talia asked, staring at my with concern.
“If he eventually call me, I'll tell that I’m not interested. He should go f**k his arrogant himself.” I said, lounging on the couch. I have had a torrid at the shop. All I need right now is a good sound sleep. I don't need anything that would disturb my mental health right now.
“You have to be careful, dear.” Talia said as I stood up to make use of the restroom.
“Talia, I can always take care of myself. I am not a kid.”
The sharp ringing tone of my phone woke me up from my deep slumber. I checked the time, it was already four-thirty A.M.
Who the hell is calling me? I picked the call.
“Hello?” I said drowsily on the phone. There was a momentary silence, broken with a coarse breath on the other end of the line.
“Hello?” I said again as the sleep seems to be clearing away from my eyes.
“Lila, this is Ryder. I'm calling to remind you about the dinner you will be preparing for my friends this weekend. I'll be coming around later today to finalize our discussion on how you'll go about it - including cost estimates and all”
“Excuse me sir, is that why you woke me up from my sleep? Did I tell you that I'm interested in preparing dinner for you and your friends?” I could feel my anger brewing as I sat up on my bed.
“In case you didn't get me, I'm not interested. Why are you disturbing me? Go and find someone else!” I could feel my heart beating fast with anger.
“Leave me alone!”
There was a long pause at the other end of the line. Apart from intermittent coarse breathe, it was all dead silence. I was about ending the call.
“Lila, assuming I had any other option, I wouldn't have come to you. You are the only one that could pull this on a short notice.” He said calmly. I hesitated on my decision to end the call. There was something calming about those words. Assertive? Yes. But very calming and reassuring.
“I…don't…by the way, how did you get my number? How did you even know my name?” I struggled with words as I found myself plunging into a dilemma.
“I'm banking on you to come true me this weekend. My men – my friends would be very glad to eat a dinner prepare by you. That would go a long way in making us happy. I acknowledged the inconveniences this my request might be causing you.”
Just imagine, the arrogant bastard did not deemed it fit to apologize directly.
“Lila are you there?”
“Eehhmm…I don't even know whether I would be free this weekend.” I can't even believe that I am even considering his request.
“It's just for the evening.” He said. “I promise, you'll be safe.”
Since Axel, my mate rejected me, no man has ever talked to me in reassuring manner Ryder is talking to me. I could feel Clara howling softly in anticipation.
“I'll think about it.” I heard myself saying.
“There's no time to think about anything. You just have accept it or not.” He said with an air of authority.
He sounds like a man of power.
Why is he so desperate for me to prepare dinner for him and his friends? I guess he had options, but he came for me for reason best known to him.
“I'll come over to your shop later today for us to iron out every wrinkles.” The line went dead before I could say anything.
I really don't know how I feel about this whole arrangement. I came to this town to restart my life all over again after my mate rejected me. I know I wouldn't have been alive today if not for Talia's help. After months of emotional breakdown, I vowed not to have anything to do with going into relationship with man. I have kept to that vow up until now. My pastries shop is my all in all and where I derived my happiness.
Throughout the day many questions kept bugging my mind. Do I really know this man enough to go and cook dinner for him and his friends? What if he has evil intention against me? Who knows he might be sent by Axel? Greta? Or any member of Shadowfang pack to finally eliminate me.
“Should I go? Or should I not?” I kept on muttering to myself as Ryder sauntered into the shop, looking daring and…handsome.
