On the last day of training, we were all awarded a certificate of graduation from tech school. I was officially a U.S. Army Cavalry Scout. It wasn’t a Master’s Degree but it was something to be equally proud of, if not more so. I would go home for ten days but I’d also received orders to return to Fort Benning for assignment to the 316th Cavalry Brigade. I was also provided with something unexpected - a top secret security clearance. I guess I really wasn’t all that surprised. After all, I was going to be working as a human conduit for classified military information. If I were to be captured, I would either fight my way out or die trying.
