The party ended in whispers and stares. Adrian’s men kept their heads low, waiting for their boss to explode.
But Adrian didn’t shout. He didn’t punish Elena immediately. Instead, he let her stew in silence all night, ignoring her completely.
The next morning, Elena stormed into his study, fire in her eyes. “If you think you can silence me, you’re wrong!”
Adrian didn’t even look up from his papers. “You’re still alive. That’s more mercy than most get.”
Her hands slammed onto his desk. “I won’t play your game!”
Finally, his eyes lifted, gray and stormy. He rose slowly, coming around the desk until he towered over her.
“You think you humiliated me last night?” His voice was calm, too calm. “No, Elena. You humiliated yourself.”
Her chest heaved. “I’ll never love you.”
Adrian’s lips curved, his hand suddenly gripping her waist, pulling her flush against him.
“Good,” he whispered darkly. “Because love isn’t what I want from you.”
Before she could respond, his mouth crashed onto hers.
The kiss was brutal, claiming, fire and dominance all at once. Elena shoved at his chest, but the world spun, her body betraying her as sparks shot through her veins.
When he finally pulled back, her lips were swollen, her breath ragged.
His smirk was pure sin. “You taste like defiance. And I’ll have more.”
She slapped him, her hand stinging.
But Adrian only laughed softly, his eyes glittering. “Careful, princess. You keep kissing me like that, you might start wanting it.”
Her heart raced in confusion, fury, and something she couldn’t name.
