"Your Highness... I didn't get the girl's identity... I encountered someone..." Sebastian, his personal guard, bowed respectfully, his words tinged with a hint of defeat.
Devin, his face hardening with annoyance, leaned back in his chair. "What do you mean you didn't find out her identity? How is that even possible?"
Sebastian hesitated, his gaze fixed on the intricate patterns of the Persian rug beneath his feet. "Prince Devin... Her personal guard is my brother, Jaden. In our training days, no one could beat him, and he’s fiercely loyal to his master—the girl you asked me to follow."
Devin's brows furrowed, a flicker of curiosity sparking in his eyes. "What exactly happened?"
Sebastian straightened, taking a deep breath. “Flashback."
Flashback
Devin, a glint of mischief in his eyes, smiled as he plucked a flute from the table. It was a beautiful instrument, crafted from amethyst, and it had been left behind by the girl he was determined to find.
"Find out who she is," he commanded, his voice firm.
Sebastian, his black clothes swirling around him as he moved, bowed. He quickly created a portal, the familiar swirling energy crackling around him. He stepped through, his heart pounding with a mix of anticipation and dread.
The forest before him was unfamiliar. He had no idea Celest had created a portal there, knowing she would be followed. She was clever, she knew he would try to open a portal into the Duke's Residence, and she wouldn't allow it.
He took a step forward, ready to move through the trees when a cold blade pressed against his throat, stopping him in his tracks. He hadn't even seen the movement, the blade had appeared out of nowhere.
"Why are you following my young miss, brother?"
Sebastian turned to face the voice, his heart skipping a beat as he saw his brother, Jaden, his face etched with a blend of anger and concern. Jaden, the brother he'd abandoned to receive special training at the palace, leaving him there to face the harshest punishments.
"Jaden... How are you... So she's the girl who took you in?" Sebastian asked, a mixture of surprise and resentment lacing his voice.
"It's none of your business," Jaden said, his voice hard. "Explain yourself, or face death for following my young miss."
Sebastian swallowed, the blade still pressed against his throat. "Fine. I will... I am the personal guard of the Prince of the Zodiac Realm, Prince Devin. I was told to know your master's identity. So just tell me, and I'll leave immediately."
"I will not tell you," Jaden replied, his voice firm. "Just leave. You know you're no match for me."
Jaden lowered his blade, allowing Sebastian to back away. Sebastian retreated through the portal, his heart pounding in his chest.
Back to the present
"So, that’s what happened," Devin said, a flicker of disappointment in his eyes.
"Yes, Your Highness," Sebastian replied, bowing his head.
A maid entered the chamber, her movements graceful. “Your Highness, Prince Devin,” she announced, “Young Master Kael is waiting for you inside. He’s already practicing. And Prince Zephyr has informed me that he is busy and cannot join the practice today.”
Devin nodded, his gaze hardening. "I just escaped death earlier," he murmured, his voice a low growl. While entering the chamber sitting on the Bench near where Kael is practicing.
"Really?" Kael asked, his tone nonchalant, yet his eyes held a flicker of concern as he continued his sword practice. "So the demons' next target is you after they killed the Prince of Sun?"
"A girl helped me," Devin said, a hint of admiration in his voice. "I even became mute seeing her sleeping beautifully Wich I hate to admit, I ended up calling her a grandma, but she's a beautiful grandma."
Kael chuckled, his concern momentarily forgotten. "You're unbelievable. You can't even express feelings, so you insult your savior."
He set his sword aside, his brow furrowed. “She called me a chicken, so I think we’re just fair, and it just came out of my mouth, since her hair is white, I mean... silver” he replied, a smirk playing on his lips.
Kael burst out laughing, his laughter echoing through the chamber. "That nickname suits you. She's... the first who did that. If Zephyr heard this, he would agree with me. your hilarious Devin,"
Devin shoved him playfully, then stood up and grabbed his sword. "Yeah, yeah... Whatever. No matter what... I'll eventually find her."
Kael grabbed his own sword, a glint of steel catching the light. "I think you can't do that anymore. Your fiancee is back. We finally found my sister, Jasmine. I can't wait for the week to end so I could spend time with her. But if she doesn't like you, I'll help her break the engagement."
Devin rolled his eyes, his expression a mixture of annoyance and resignation. “I don’t want to be your brother, okay? So no… I’ll be the first one to break off the engagement.”
Kael grinned, his eyes twinkling with mischief. “Well, it’s okay for me. At least my sister can love the person she wants without worrying. All I want is my sister’s happiness.”
“I’ll come with you once you go back to your residence… to personally break off the engagement.”
“If you say so,” Kael replied, his smile broadening. “You know... my sister is a beauty, so I bet you’ll regret it."
Devin, his eyes flashing with determination, raised his sword. "Let me tell you... The grandma I met was more beautiful.”
Kael laughed, his voice echoing through the chamber. "My sister is the most beautiful, period."
They stood there, swords raised, their playful banter turning into a mock duel, their words a mix of teasing and rivalry.
