Chloey’s POV
I really enjoyed my talk with Tate.
I guess I kind of understood why Zoey liked him so much. When he wasn’t running around accusing Marsden of murder, he was kind of nice.
Speaking of Marsden, he and Joey seemed to be arguing all the time, but not like the angry kind. I think they’re arguing because they love each other so much. It sounded strange, but that’s definitely what was happening.
I decided not to ask her about it. I needed advice on something else anyways.
“How many guys have you slept with?”
Joey thought it over. “I don’t know. I stopped counting after ten honestly.”
“Is s*x with Marsden better than with those other guys?” I questioned.
“Absolutely.”
“Why?”
“I don’t know. Marsden is very experienced. And maybe my overwhelming feelings for him probably make it better too.” Joey smiled slightly.
“So because you love him, it makes it better?” I clarified.
“I think. Why?”
“Rune and I have started making love and it’s been amazing. Better than with Cade and I guess I wanted to know why.”
Joey smiled. “That’s really good to hear. I really like you guys together. Rune is great.”
“I like that he and Marsden are getting along,” I grinned.
“Me too,”
“Is everything okay there?”
“Yeah, we’re just…we love each other too much and it’s stupid,”
“That’s a good reason to be fighting though,” I pointed out.
“Hey!” Zoey sat with us. “Sorry I’m late. Tate has been insatiable.”
“How is it with the future hunter?” Joey smirked.
“He’s very different in the bedroom. Dominant as hell.”
“Oh really?! How interesting!”
“You know how Rune is kind of quirky and nervous? He’s so confident during s*x and really passionate.” I shared.
My sisters looked at me with delight in their eyes as their mouths dropped open.
“Chloey you’re talking about s*x!” Zoey gasped.
“Passionate s*x at that!” Joey laughed.
“I’m not prissy and innocent anymore.” I said proudly.
“Chloey Rosaria you w***e!”
We all turned to see Lavina Stone stomping over to me. I stood up, unsure of what was about to happen.
“You f****d Rune?!” She accused.
I looked around in embarrassment. While I wanted my sisters to know, I didn’t want everyone else to know.
“That’s not really your business,” I stated.
“Yes it is. I love him and he left me for you!"
“He left you because you’re crazy!” Joey snapped.
“Shut the f**k up!” Lavina yelled. “Worry your prison-bound vampire boyfriend!”
“Oh no,” Zoey whispered.
Before Joey could react, something came over me.
“Hey, don’t you ever speak to my sister like that! Rune left you because you’re horrid and revolting! You are so vile, I don’t know what he was doing with you in the first place! And yes I did have s*x with him and he said it was leagues better than with you!”
I gasped as Lavina slapped me across the face. My sisters came up behind me as I felt something surging through me as my eyes glazed over. I think the blue energy was back. Our hands shot out and electric blue water burst out of them.
Lavina screamed as the water carried her away. She hit a tree and the water kept rushing over her. I knew it was going too far, but we couldn’t stop.
“Stop, stop!” Rune screamed as he pulled me to face him
Like always, we gasped as we came out of the trance.
“What was that?” Rune questioned.
“I-I don’t know. She hit me!”
“She’s not breathing!” Someone screamed.
Did we actually drown Lavina Stone?
Zoey’s POV
I was frozen as everyone tried to revive Lavina.
I felt relief as she gasped for air. While I didn’t like her, I definitely really want to drown her. But she shouldn't have put her hands on Chloey.
I now understood why mom was so scared of our powers.
“What happened here?” Giselle hurried over. “What is all this water?”
“Those three tried to drown me!” Lavina screeched.
“We didn’t mean to do it!” Joey insisted.
“I’m sorry girls, you have to go see the Director,” Giselle shook her head. “Lavina, let me help you to the infirmary.”
My sisters and I hung our heads and headed to Director Magnus’ office, afraid of what our consequences would be.
--
We sat in front of Director Magnus nervously.
“So, please tell me what happened,” He urged.
“Well, Lavina came up shouting at me-”
“Why?”
“Because she’s mad that I’m dating Rune Crimson.” Chloey replied.
“But I thought you were dating Cade Pickerin?” Director Magnus asked.
“I told you she wasn’t anymore,” Joey pointed out.
“You two talk about who Chloey is dating?” I questioned.
“Just in passing,” Director Magnus assured her. “Chloey, please continue.”
“She yelled at me and Joey and then when I told her not to, she slapped me. That’s when the blue energy took over again.” Chloey finished.
“The same one that stopped Jade and almost hurt Raina?”
“The same one,” I answered.
He sighed. “What happened wasn’t right, girls, however I know you can’t control it. You felt Chloey was threatened and your body and magic did what it could to protect her. In the coming weeks, I would like you girls to explore your powers a little more. It’s my job to guide you before you go into the real world, and I think it would be good to have a grip on this.”
“I couldn’t agree more, sir,” Chloey nodded.
“I’m glad. And of course I’ll help you with it. Until then, no more tidal waves, hm?” He raised his eyebrows.
“Yes sir,” We chorused.
“Now, you’ll have to apologize to Lavina for endangering her life even if it wasn’t on purpose-don’t roll your eyes Joey.”
“I will apologize, but I won’t mean it,” She stated.
“I figured. Now, you’re free to go…Joey could I speak to you for a moment?”
“Of course sir,”
I slowly got up and left, wondering what the hell they were talking about.
I was surprised to see Marsden waiting outside in the hall. I was under the impression things were falling apart between him and Joey and I was more than glad. What we read in his journal scared the absolute s**t out of me.
He really did put her in danger.
“What are you doing here?” I asked.
“Just waiting for Joey,” Marsden answered. “Wanna make sure she’s okay.”
“Are you two breaking up?” Chloey blurted out.
“No, we love each other.”
“I’m glad,”
“Me too,” I lied.
I wanted to know what they were going to say, so I let Chloey go ahead and waited around the corner.
I used a charm to heighten my hearing.
“Yes, everything is fine,” Joey assured Marsden. “Especially if you’re ready to tell me what happened.”
“Just forget it, Jo.” Marsden sighed. “Please forget I ever asked.”
“I will if you tell me why you asked.”
“Well I’m not doing that,”
“FIne, then now I’m pushing you away!” Joey turned on her heel and stalked off.
“Joey come back!” Marsden groaned.
I looked after them, wondering what Mardsen asked her to do, and hoping this fight was enough to make them break up.
Joey’s POV
I stared up at Marsden.
“You want to turn me?” I whispered. “I thought you didn’t want that life for me.”
“I know I said that, but…maybe it’s better this way?” He wouldn’t look at me.
“What’s going on Marsden? This doesn't make any sense.”
“I’m um…I’m sorry I asked, okay?” He got off of me.
“But why did you ask?” I demanded. “I mean are you allowed to turn me without the ceremony?”
“Yes, I can,”
“Fine. If you want me to do this, then I will.” I held my arm out to him.
He gently grabbed it and brushed his lips against my arm. I closed my eyes preparing for the pain.
“No, I can’t do it!” He cried.
“Then why did you ask?” I demanded.
“I don’t feel well,” Marsden hurried into the bathroom.
I could hear him throwing up violently.
I wasn’t sure what was wrong with him, but I was going to find out.
--
“Marsden asked to turn me but he didn’t and won’t tell me why he asked.”
“Maybe he’s being pressured?” Director Magnus suggested.
“Or maybe he thinks it will protect me?” I sighed. “But he’s on the brink of breaking up with me, I think. He’s scared that I love him too much since I was going to do it.”
“Don’t let him break up with you, Joey. You two need to be together.”
“Are we your favorite couple?”
“Funny. Make up with him. It’s the best way to keep him safe,” Director Magnus said seriously.
“I’ll try my best. I should go, people are getting suspicious, you know?” I asked.
“Tell them I’m helping you with your future,”
“Yeah, that would make them even more suspicious, sir.”
--
“Joey…Jo…dammit Joey talk to me!” Marsden begged.
“Not unless you have an explanation for me.”
“Fine!” He hissed. He grabbed my arm and took me to the Celestial Tower. We didn’t go up to the secret room. “Count Killoran and your father said I had to.”
“Why did he act like he didn’t know we were together? You said you didn’t talk to him,”
“I lied. He didn’t want you to know he had any part in this. I have been fighting with myself about this, Joey. I don’t want that for you, but I’m scared of what will happen if I don’t do it.”
“So do it,” I breathed.
Marsden stared at me. “No…Joey you need to get out. Be as far away from me as possible! This has gone too far! I’m going to fail and you’re going to get hurt. Just get out while you can.”
“No, I’m not going anywhere, I love you Marsden!”
“And I love you! That’s why I can’t keep putting you in danger, you are so much better off without me.”
“Listen to him, Joey!” We turned and saw Tate walking towards us. “Unless you’re already an accomplice to the things he’s done…and he’s done quite some damage this year, hasn’t he?”
“You don’t know what you’re talking about,” I whispered.
“Maybe I don’t know everything but I read his journal. He said he’s gonna get you killed, Joey. You’re in way over your head.”
“Go away!” Marsden shouted. “Get out of here and leave us alone!”
“Not until you admit it. I’m tired of this game, Thorton. I am so close to figuring you out! What I do know is that you’re failing at this task of yours. You’re so f*****g pathetic! And even worse you’re dragging Joey down with you. You won’t care until she dead because of you-”
Marsden hurled a curse at Tate that he dodged. Tate threw one back, blowing up the wall. The hall filled with shouting curses and explosions. Tate conjured up a giant green magical sword and Marsden conjured up a red one. They were sword fighting while throwing spells at the same time.
“Joey get out!” Marsden yelled.
“No!” I screamed.
In an attempt to dodge a purple blast that Tate had thrown, I jumped back, but my ankle rolled and I fell and hit my head on a piece of rubble. I was dizzy.
“What did you do to her?” Marsden shouted. He let his guard down.
He gasped loudly as the sword went straight through him. Tate quickly pulled it out and the sword disappeared as Marsden fell to the ground, clutching his chest that was bleeding profusely.
I crawled over to him. “Marsden, look at me. Look at me! Stay with me babe.” I turned to Tate. “What have you done?!”
”I-I…”
“Somebody help!” I screamed. Marsden was barely moving at this point. “Babe don’t close your eyes, please stay with me!”
His bloody hand touched my face. “Jo…I love you…” He choked out.
“Marsden, stay with me!” I sobbed.
In that destroyed hall, with blood trickling down my head and tears streaming down my face was where I was sure my boyfriend was going to die in my arms.
