Chloey’s POV
Should I tell Zoey the truth?
No, it was still much too soon. She’d be furious at me for not telling her the truth. She just left, I couldn’t risk her not talking to me.
“Um…no, I actually haven’t. I don’t think she’d answer, honestly.”
“Yeah, probably not,” Zoey muttered. “Well, this is really cool, but it’s taking a lot of me, Chloey. I need my strength for the journey.”
“Okay, let me know when you settle for the night.”
“Um, I don’t think I know how to do that.”
“I’ll just check in with you then,” I assured her.
“Okay. I love you Chloey.”
“Love you too.”
I sighed as the connection broke. I couldn’t believe this. All of us were in different places, doing different things. I knew one day it would happen, but I didn’t think it would be this soon. Or that it would be so dire.
“Babe, are you okay?” Rune asked, laying down next to me.
“I talked to Zoey. She and Tate are okay.”
“Well that’s a relief. I can’t believe they left like that.”
“Me neither. Obviously this war makes everyone do things they wouldn’t normally do. I mean look at Joey.” I sighed. “She um…she wants to tell Marsden everything.”
“s**t. Is she going to?”
“If Magnus says she can.”
“So he’ll know about me too?” Rune whispered.
“If that’s okay. I don’t think he’ll judge you for it or anything. He won’t think you’re a monster.”
“Everyone else does,” He muttered. “I hate it, Chloey. The way people talk about werewolves like we’re vicious creatures or something. You know when I’m in that form all I want to do is run around and feel free. And be with you of course.”
“I love you, Rune, but I don’t think I’ll be making love to you while you’re in that form.” I laughed.
“Will you make love to me in this form then?” He murmured. “I miss touching you.”
I smiled before kissing him. “I will always want to make love to you in this form.”
Rune kissed me again, slowly rolling on top of me. His hand caressed my thigh before pulling my dress off. His eyes danced over my body. I remembered when I used to be insecure about being half naked in front of someone, but now I felt sexy and desirable.
Rune stripped his shirt off and tossed it behind him. He kissed me as he removed the rest of our clothes and pulled the cover over us. I ran my hands over his body, loving the feel of him. He looked me in the eyes before disappearing under the cover.
I gasped as I felt his tongue on me. Ecstasy danced through my body as his tongue flicked back and forth and then in a circular motion. My hips bucked desperate to reach my orgasm. I knew my orgasm not only meant pure bliss, but also getting to feel Rune inside of me.
He gripped my hips before his tongue picked up speed as he moaned against me. I loved how much he seemed to enjoy going down on me. The pull was becoming more powerful, I knew I was seconds away. My climax left me shaking and gasping.
Rune kissed up my body until he reached my lips. He kissed me harder as he entered me slowly. My eyes rolled back as my chest pressed against his. I wrapped my arms around Rune as he thrusted in me powerfully. He moaned and groaned in my ear before gently biting it.
“How are you so perfect?” He whispered.
I whimpered in response as he went in deeper. My nails dug into his back, causing him to slam into me harder. His tongue swirled on the skin of my neck before sucking.
“Rune!” I cried out.
“Chloey…I’m close,” Rune murmured against my skin.
He buried his head in the crook of my neck before pumping faster until he couldn’t take it anymore. Rune finished loudly, his moans muffled. He gasped in my ear as he came down.
“I love you,” Rune kissed my neck.
I sighed happily. “I love you too.”
Zoey’s POV
I couldn’t believe we could communicate through our minds.
Of course our emotions were connected, and people always said twins could communicate telepathically, but I never believed it would be like that. It was like Chloey was standing right next to me and talking.
Tate didn’t see it as the best thing in the world.
“What if she’s using it to track you?”
“I don’t think that’s how it works, honey.” I admitted.
“But it could. What if this is her trying to bring you home?”
“Chloey isn’t a schemer Tate. Now if it was my other sister, maybe I’d believe there was some ulterior motive.”
“Are you going to try to get in her head?” Tate asked.
“No, I don’t think so. I don’t want to hear whatever sinister thing is going on in her head at all. Besides I don’t even really know how to do it.” I explained.
“So how does Chloey?”
“She’s the smartest person I know. I don't’ find it hard to believe that she figured something like this out.”
“Yeah, that makes sense I guess. So she’s gonna help us?”
I nodded. “Yeah. It’s kind of a relief, right? We’re not really alone.”
“And that’s a good thing?” Tate frowned.
“I think so. Help is good.”
“The whole point was that we would be doing this ourselves. To show that we’re capable of doing something big on our own.”
“Well Tate, I hate to say it, but we’re kind of unprepared. Once we get to Covenman Territory we have no idea where to look for the key. Having some help on that won’t kill us, I assure you.” I stated.
“I swear this is Magnus’ way of spying on me because he doesn’t believe in me. No one does.”
“Tate, I believe in you, you know that.”
“You have to, you’re dating me.”
“It’s more than that. Even when we were friends, I believed in you. Remember all those talks we used to have? I was always in your corner. Even more so now, babe.”
I grabbed his hand and squeezed it. I remembered what Simone had said about how Tate would try to push me away and I had to not let him.
Oh Simone.
I hadn’t thought much about her since graduation. I think it was too hard. Of all the people I knew, Simone was the last person I would have expected to be a Dark Vampiric Warlock.
I remember she said she’d done it for Paxton.
Joey always said that Simone was a perfect mix of me and Chloey and that’s why she liked her. Turns out she was more like Joey. I wonder if Joey had known about her? If she knew about all the Dark Vampiric Warlocks that we were going to school with?
I had so many questions for her and I was afraid I would never get any kind of answers on them. I wasn’t sure I would ever see her again. That broke me more than I cared to admit.
“Zo?” Tate asked. “Are you okay?”
“Um, yeah. I’m just not gonna let you push me away, okay? We’re in this together and always will be, do you understand?”
He smiled. “There’s no one else I would want by my side. I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay.”
Simone had given me great advice. Maybe not all Dark Vampiric Warlocks are evil.
Joey’s POV
I had hope.
Chloey told me that not only had Tate and Zoey gone after the Ligneous Stake, but Magnus had given me the green light to tell Marsden everything. I guess things were dire enough.
I sat Marsden down in our room. With a sound proof enchantment, it was the safest room in the house.
“I’m about to tell you something and I need you to hear me out okay? Like when you told me you were a Dark Vampiric Warlock and I listened to you.”
“You’re making me nervous,” He commented.
“Don’t be. Everything is under control,” I assured him. “So um…remember when I told you Magnus offered to help me or us?”
“Yeah, and you told him we didn’t need help.” I bit my lip. “You did tell him that right, Joey?”
“At first, I did…and then you were freaking out and I was getting scared so I went back to him and told him-”
“What? About everything I was doing? The barrier? All of that?!”
“I actually didn’t tell him! He already knew Marsden, I swear! It’s just we needed help baby.”
Marsden ran his fingers through his hair. “Okay so what came of that?”
“He made sure to convince Tate and Zoey that you weren’t dangerous so you could complete your task.”
“Why would he do that?”
“Because he knew you’d be killed if you didn’t complete it. He just wanted to make sure you were safe.”
“So that’s why he stopped checking on the barrier? To help me?” Marsden whispered. “That’s…kind of f*****g nice.”
“Yeah, he’s a good man. But there’s more to it. I’m kind of his spy. It’s the reason I allowed you to turn me. So everyone would fully trust me.” I explained.
“Well that’s kind of a relief. At least I know it wasn’t just for me. But being a spy is very dangerous Joey. What if you get caught giving information?”
“It’s pretty impossible for me to get caught,” I whispered. “See the way I give information is…through Chloey.”
His eyes widened. “Excuse me?”
“We can talk in our minds. Magnus taught us. So I tell her things through our minds and no one will ever know.”
“She knows about me?” I nodded. “But…she never treated me any differently or looked at me horribly.”
“She knows you’re not a bad person.” I smiled slightly.
“Why do I feel like there’s even more you’re not telling me?” Marsden asked.
“Rune knows too…”
“God did you send out a newsletter?!”
“Okay, that one wasn’t my fault at all! Chloey told him because she couldn’t handle lying to him anymore. And to keep things fair, she told me something about Rune that he doesn’t want everyone knowing.”
“And that is?” Marsden questioned.
“The Rainbow Moon turned Rune into a werewolf.”
“What the f**k…was that him at Obsidian?”
I nodded. “It was an accident. Cade made him angry and he changed forms.”
“f**k…why didn’t you tell me earlier?”
“Magnus said I should wait until things seemed kind of dire,”
“Are they dire?” Marsden asked.
“I mean a little,” I squeaked. “But there is good news! Zoey and Tate are getting the Ligneous Stake and that’s what’s gonna kill Count Killoran.”
Marsden couldn’t help the smile that came across his face. “Are you serious? This could all be over?”
“Yes, and soon. But until then we have to do whatever we can to stay alive. So you need to seem into all things Dark Vampiric Warlock, Marsden. You don’t have to do it for long, and then he’s going to be dead and we’ll be free.”
“I can do it.” Marsden stated. “If I know there’s an actual end to this, I will pretend as hard as I can.”
I smiled in relief. That was exactly what I needed to hear from him. If he was adamant about trying, Count Killoran would have no excuse to kill him.
Once again, I could keep Marsden safe.
There was a knock on the door. “Joey?” Brielle asked. “Count Killoran wants to see you.”
Oh s**t.
